I think some of you need to look at yourselves, what you are posting about Bentaleb and Mason and really think about how MS etc did against them.
Not just MS. They buried stalwart internationals like Barry and Carrick. Had Matta screaming on the deck cramped up with others limping off due to the Spurs steamrolling their midfield.
If anything our forwards like Chadli, Kane, Eriksen and Lamela are more to blame for the lack of points. Even with the own goal we deserved at least a point.
I have faith in all of the above. Even Lamela if put in the right team (faster partners) can be handy in he cups.
So much scoffing at Bentaleb and Masons expense. Remind me never to post with the night crew.
Bazali called Bentaleb a cunt. We have others bemoaning his goal tally played as a DM.

Please forgive me, I forgot that we did the double last season... You have fucking lost it and this score keeping of yours is sad. Yeah, I would have taken Schneiderlin, but this strange obsession of yours that that somehow places me into some weird little club is just sad. When I made that post it looked as though Schneiderlin was going to be our player, what the fuck is wrong in your mind with wishing he'd be a successful signing??!?!?! Over a year ago I made that post, but if I do say so myself it is almost prescient in its description of our problems last season. I rate Mason and Bentaleb - I really do - but playing them as midfield partners was a major part of the problem with our play last season, and you're living in a bubble Gibbsy. Our already weak defensive line was greatly exposed by the double-pivot of Mason and Bentaleb, and I believe that opinion is validated by Dier's move into midfield as the more defensively dedicated midfielder. Bentaleb and Mason both have great work rates and aren't afraid to throw their weight around, but neither have ever been an ideal partner for our defensive line.
Crushing and "steamrolling" teams in midfield with strength and work-rate is all well and good, but it means nothing if we can't score goals in the process, which as you might have noticed we're actually having a difficult time with right now, and if we constantly lose our focus when the opposition breaks and counter-attacks on us.

Our poor finishing is nothing new, it doesn't require explanation when I say that the midfield combination of Bentaleb and Mason was underwhelming last season. Two entirely different issues at play.
The disorganization of our midfield was a major contributing factor to how poorly our defense performed last season. Neither had a natural link or understanding with our central defense.
But what I don't understand is the purity test that you're trying to turn this into. Why do you seem to demand that if I am not fully for Mason and Bentaleb, then I am therefore fully against them? Why does it offend you so damn much when I say that I really like them as players, but playing them together as midfield partners leaves us unbalanced and exposed? They're still just players with strengths and weaknesses; I simply believe that as players they are altogether very similar and that we'd be well served with another midfielder that offers a different set of talents to be called upon. I also don't understand how it offends you so greatly that I said once upon a time over a year ago that I hoped Schneiderlin would be a good player for us. I also hoped that Soldado and Lamela would be good players for us as well, but does that mean that I persist in believing that they are still the answer to all of our prayers and that we were hasty in moving Soldado on? You said Bentaleb and Mason in the middle was our main issue last season? That's such an ignorant outlook on the season. They helped us get 5th. They were a positive. So much so everyone (that didnt go to sleep wearing Southamoton grass is greener pajamas) was clamoring to nail down Bentalebs contract.
It was Solddo missfiring, Townsend, Paulinho, Chiriches, Lamela, and earlier Lennon that were more to blame for our softness and misfiring season. .
We were 3 points from 4th because of them:

Around that point of the season, Poch re intrroduced Townsend and all hell broke loose. We crashed out of the Europa, the race for 4th wasnt just him subbing Townsedn early against Utd, he also did the same with Townsend gifting Liverpool our right hand side. What else happened? Poch brought Towsend back for the cup final.
It was wet paper bags like Townsend and non events on the pitch like Soldado that fucked our season. It was all to play for. In the final stages of Europa, 3 points from 4th and in a cup final. That was the platform they gave us.
We fixed the issues, we got new wide men and the REAL issues you ignored are either playing for other teams or out of the starting 11. We didn't get new Masons and Bentalebs because they are not the reason we choked last season.

No, you're twisting my words. I said that Bentaleb and Mason together in the middle was a major problem and I stand by those words, but I didn't say that it was our "main issue".
We had problems front to back last season, I'm not claiming that Mason and Bentaleb were the worst and most pressing problem among the lot of them.
