MENTAL FORTITUDE

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Honestly thought this was going to be about some of our fans. I’ve never seen such a reaction from a poor run of games. Mental fortitude? That’s a good one.

Sack the board, sack the manager, sack the team - waaaaaaaaiilllll.

Policy doesn't allow game changers/ winners to be signed (Just one ) to get us over the line .
An Ardilles , or even Modric type at the end of career would make that difference to add that element to a young squad , than another prospect sold at his peak to a rival.
I'll agree with that. We need a winner in our ranks, someone who has been there, done it,got the t shirt. We have needed this type of player for a few seasons now.

What we need in an on-field captain in the mould of Roy Keane, Billy Bremner, Bryan Robson or (shudder) Tony Adams.

The kind of captain that every other outfield player (and maybe even) the manager is a little fearful of.

I can't imagine the lethargy of the Watford or WBA games where we seem to have a "we're so good that all we need to do is turn up and we win" mentality being allowed by the above examples.

If they were playing in such a team, with such a mentality, they would have grabbed the culprits: Alli, Son, Lamela, Kane, Sanchez, Wanyama (in fact pretty much the whole team except Jan and Hugo) by the throat, and squeezed a performance out of them by sheer force of their personality and leadership.

Lloris is not the answer, and I thought maybe Dier would be the answer, but perhaps not. Kane is not a captain.

Any youngsters coming up through the ranks? And the answer isn't Winks!

Adding some experience & leadership on the pitch might help. Yeah we do need to improve mentally if we are to take the next step. We are obviously more capable than we have shown especially in the cup games we lost.
Ability wise we are top 4.
Add leadership & mental strength & we can win cups & finish higher in the league.

It’s the timing of that poor run that costs us.

You can have a poor run halfway through the season but have time to put that right. When you have a poor run in all the games that matter it becomes an issue.
Man City was not a problem for me, it was the Juventus, Man Utd, Brighton and West Brom games that have been hard to take for me..
All these games were winnable and all have cost us dearly.. I seriously fear about falling short of top 4 and that’s because I have lost faith in these must win games. It’s a shame but reality I’m afraid.

Fair enough mate. I understand what you’re saying but I’m confident we’ll get the results we need and I’ll worry if we don’t.

I don't think we know how to kill a game, to make niggly fouls or waste time those reasons are why Juve and United beat us.

I love poch but I'm also a little concerned about both his team selection and use of subs in cup games too. That's what separates him from managers who have won trophies at this point.

Where was all this in autumn, when we were battering Dortmund, Madrid and Liverpool? Did we need Roy Keane then?
Or in winter when we started on our longest unbeaten league run? Didn’t hear anyone screaming for Tony Adams.

But we go out of the CL against a team who’ve been in 3 of the last 4 finals, lose a semi against a bigger and better side and this is no longer good enough? Is it the quadruple or nothing nowadays?

It probably wasn’t but it feels like it was more fun supporting Tottenham when we were shit.

People have been saying all season how we are no longer pushovers, how our game now has bite. Now look. Was it just an illusion? I prefer to think not.

If you don't pay any attention to this place or the media, it's still a brilliant time to be a Spurs fan.

Those are some rose tinted glasses.
To finish below Woolwich every season while going out in the FA Cup to teams like Birmingham was shite.

Why have you opened up such a thread, this is the Poch "brown-noser" forum, he is beyond question, opinion is not welcome here
Of course opinion is welcome.

In your opinion, at what point this season did it become obvious we didn’t have a winning mentality? Was it when we lost to one of the best teams in Europe? Or when we lost a semi against the second best team in the country? Maybe it was when we were carving up our CL group? Or beating Liverpool 4-1, or ManU 2-0. I’m assuming it was a defeat that set you off knowing we didn’t have the right stuff, but any one in particular?

Maybe also be worth highlighting your expectations at the start of the season where every match was away from home. I assume we’ve fallen short of what you expected?

Have you only been supporting the club for the last 2 seasons and are pissed off you didn't plump for City?

in comparison with his predecessors over the last 25 years - he pretty much is beyond reproach.

now its all about the whiny "why aren't we winning everything?" spoiled brats that think we should simply morph into Bracelona or any oligarch/sheikh driven money pit of a club

Yeah I know. That’s why I said it ‘probably wasn’t’. I do admit I enjoy gallows humour more than screaming entitlement though. To read some of the stuff on here you wouldn’t think it’s better now would you?
