If you had to build the perfect centre back in terms of physicality, it would be Micky Van de Ven. Pace, power, height.

Assured again today and tidy on the ball.

Still young and will make mistakes as we have seen but he has all the tools you need to be a world class centre half. Very exciting

I do wish he had a bit of Romero's bite in the 1v1 defending. He stood too far off Koliosho for the first goal. I feel Romero would have reacted quicker and splayed himself wide in front of the shot to block it.

Top young defender with huge potential. After just 4/5 games seeing him in action a bloody massive upgrade on donkeys like Lenglet, Sanchez and Dier. Just stay fit lad.

Shades of Vertonghen in Micky's composure, tackling and eye for a progressive pass. Calm, nothing flashy, and built like a brick shithouse. Love it. Not a bad looking fella either :ledleylick:

Bit of a worry for injury with his height, but good decision-making and positioning should reduce that risk.

He was crucial for i think 4th goal - when he dribbled under pressure past burnley attacker and starter action on the left side that ended in son’s goal. You can saw Ange reaction after this goal (when he was clapping VDVs back) to understand how crucial his move was. Also his reaction for 2nd burnley goal was great - only shame he had his leg a little too high to block shot completely. Ofc not good enough for 1st goal, but errors always will be there, especially with this setup. So far he exceeds my expectations completely.

The way we play must be factored in when judging the defence and GK. They've all done tremendously well. VdV has been excellent, I'd argue his OGs/deflections are also testament to how hard it is to get a clean shot away with his closing down (often he's recovering too).
