Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He was everywhere today. Playing his usual role as the last line of defense through timely interceptions, clearing crosses, winning 50/50s, you name it.

Even his current, rough-around-the-edges version can be a top player in a better organized defense in particular and a team in general.

The tackle was akin to one years ago when Davids played for maybe Juventus or some Italian club, and saved a likely goal. Can't recall the opposition.

The best thing about the saving tackle, goal aside is that Van Der Ven would have had to stretch those hamstrings. Good for the confidence.

Wrap him up - simples

"is" our most important player. Also our best player. Those critics creeping out last couple of weeks are most definitely not seeing the same player I'm seeing

All round, I still think his game is being polished and we have older, more complete players. Romero being 1 of them, but VDVs mentality and specific ability are make or break for this team IMO, so I'm pretty comfortable saying he IS our most important player, even if he's not our best (yet).

what hes good at hes actually elite at. hes obviously one of if not THE quickest CB in the world. his passing is clean and weighted really well, he can move off with the ball and burst into space with it at his feet if theres an opportunity to do it. if he can become more dominant in the air and improve his actual defending a bit then hes easily a top 3 CB in the world.

Though not the finished article he is that important to us that without him we are more or less fucked as a defensive unit

He’s a captain all day long for me. At the games you realise he’s one of our more vocal players but that’s not hard because we have a team of mutes.
He leads by how he plays too. On another level to Sonny regarding as to being a captain.
