Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't think that could be construed as a red card as there were 2 defenders converging on the attacking player. I also think VDV should be given credit for timing the push/barge on the player before he got to the penalty area.
The defence played well generally against a dangerous team

It wasn’t a red. Attacker didn’t have clear possession and took a wide touch. Contact was mostly initiated by the attacker’s change of direction.

Was more of a coming together than any sort of attempt by Micky to commit a foul.

One of the only decent calls from the ref.

Lucky boy not to get sent off for the challenge.

Spared Romero's blushes with an otherwise decent performance tonight.

Did you think it was actually a foul though?

Looked to me like the Villarreal player knew he didn’t have the legs to stay ahead so went looking for the contact himself.

Never seen VDV feel he’s got to use his shoulder when making a recovery sprint like that and have no doubts that he’d have got to him before he could pull the trigger

It was 100% a foul.

If that was on one of our players, you would think so too.

Yes, I do think it was a foul albeit a well timed one. I felt he was lucky largely due to the pattern of officiating from the off.

I was pleased to see Micky using a bit more physicality tbh. Such a talented player who has room for improvement in his all-round defending.

I noticed after about 5 mins into yesterday’s game that he wasn’t his sprightly self. Looked a bit jaded and off it but still played well. I’m glad we don’t have a champions league game and it’s only Doncaster so he will get a well earned rest leading up to Wolves next Saturday night.

Send him on holiday for four days and bring him in for the CL. Whole week off. Danso is good tbf, keep VDV fresh and well recovered. Play the long game
