Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I hope we can tie him down for a long time and keep him fit because if we do both we have one of the very best around for years to come.
Not sprinting 70 yards five times every match and being left exposed on your own every single game seems to be helping - who would have thought it Ange.

If the premier league is now all about physicality then next season we will have possibly the two most physical defenders in Europe in Van Der Ven and Vuskovic. I say that now with Van Dijk in decline. Vuskovic appears to be an absolute freak in the air and if VDV is improving in the air we can become the set piece masters.

I wouldn't be grudge selling Romero, I think he has had too many brain farts in the past.

Danso has been playing very well, seen no real lapse in concentrated, properly focused.

Then there is Dragusin and Takai, the later of which, we have no idea at all, but heard he is fast, and has a good reputation.

So for me selling Romero, and using it to find VdV a good natural LCB to cover for him, or even push could be well worth the sale.

Especially if deep down he wants to go play in Spain.

He was already good but he’s improved a lot under Frank in a short period.

His aerial ability and passing range has gotten a lot better.
100%. He relied on his pace the last few seasons which resulted in him picking up hamstring injuries too.

In these past few games without Romero, we've seen another side to VDV. He's a dominant leader and very good on the ball. He's starting to look like the complete defender now. I can't think of any weakness in his game.

Someone who truly deserves to be in the leadership group. Love him, love him, love him.

It may be that he would like to go to Spain but it’s going to cost a lot of money as he’s on a long contract now. Real seem to concentrate on free transfers these days. Swap with Alvarez at Athletico might be a good deal . We don’t really want to sell someone like Cuti. He is a leader and we don’t have many.
I thought he would have gone in the summer . Must have given him a good rise.

His passing has gotten better bit by bit as well. Which is good since it doesn't make us as reliant on Romero to play it out from the back.

I agree with that, I am not saying we should sell, just that if we did, we got some real good players like Danso, and fantastic prospects like Vuskovich, that will need a chance to break through.

And we desperately need LCB and LB, we don't need 7 RCB though, and personally, I think Cuti also switches off too often for my liking.

I’m not worrying about it, knock on wood.

Real are concentrating on frees because they can’t afford the best Prem players anymore. When smaller teams can comfortably ask for £80, 90, 100m plus to get just one of their best players, how much will it cost to get someone out of a bigger club who are likelier to have the level of player Real would want? And that’s all before wages.

That’s why, at least with Prem players, they’re now just doing a long term tap up of anyone decent who looks like they’re running their deal down and letting their badge do the work. Everyone’s saying Konate will be the next one, if Guehi doesn’t move in Jan I wouldn’t be shocked to see him there in summer. I bet Florentino was more annoyed than most in here when Saliba signed that new deal the other day.

And it’s also why they’re still clinging onto the Super League idea, because they and a few other clubs on the continent can see that if things carry on as they are financially they’ll decline long term.

... I've been saying it.
Well im upping the ante. He might be better WITHOUT Romero ( and we might be better without Cuti starting all the league games) There's a solid base of evidence that your eleven best players dont always make you a better team. So Danso giving you 8.0 out of 10 most games might be more advantageous than Cutie's 10.0 every four games but dropping 6.0 more frequently. I think we need to use the players to their particular strengths

That's the benefits of a well balanced squad, with depth.

And ideology that never fitted with Levynomics, but he is gone now, and there is a chance the Lewis family might step up, and try to achieve this.

Still Vicario have made some unreal saves the last two games. Why did he have to? All the saves cannot be up to defensive midfielders, full backs and Danso. Some of that must might have been on VdV. I still se a potential for development in him. I don´t know if it´s placement in front of goal. A laps in marking or whatever it is. Without Vicario we probably would have lost against Monaco and we could have been forced to a draw against Everton.

I even posted a couple of weeks ago that I feel Romero missed the boat on being a legitimately world-class defensive midfielder. His most exceptional attributes are his athleticism, aggression, ball-playing ability, and progressive passing. His defensive lapses come too frequently for me to consider him a world-class center-back, and his partnership with Porro especially has never really improved past the point of "suspect".

I will say that we shouldn't get too excited by Danso before he has a proper run of games to judge from, but I've been saying for well over a year that Romero's undisputed talent should NOT distract from the simple fact that he's the longest-running common element of a defensive lineup that before now has simply not been good enough. I don't think Davies counts in that regard because he's never been a consistent starter, but Romero has absolutely taken this fanbase for a ride when he's never really fulfilled his promise or delivered on a consistent basis for us.

Well he will have to raise his game consistently next season when Vuskovic comes here.
