Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Micky van de Ven says him and Romero asked Postecoglou to make tactical changes. “At one point, we just walked up to the gaffer and said that we need to change some things and play more defensive sometimes. We played away at Frankfurt and were 1-0 up, and we can’t keep attacking, we just need to come back and have a low block and make sure we get the three points. “We sat with him and he agreed with us on some things and he told us that he expected us two guys to sort this on the pitch – to make sure that this is something everybody knows and to speak to everybody on the pitch.“He said to me and Cuti personally that we need to make sure the other guys listen to us, that we have a reputation in the team and everyone respects us, so make sure the guys follow what we say on the pitch. So, Cuti and I were just screaming at everyone.”

Pretty damning of Postecoglou, isnt it?
The EL win was all Ange. A tactical masterclass and conscious decision to go against all of his footballing principles.

I won't hear another word said.

Listen I went early on Ange expressed doubts post the Chelsea debacle. But even as his harshest critic you WILL NEVER hear me say he isn't a gifted charismatic leader he's just a very vain dunce. Id have him on the bridge of the Enterprise D attacking Klingons be a great watch. Elite coach though...nah not for me. If he'd just get an elite number two the bloke who did tactics for Klopp and actually listen..but you know if its and buts we're pots and pans.

Came across as recklessly stubborn. He made it sound like

"Boss, we're leaking too many goals - can we change the tactics"
"I won't. You'll have to do it yourselves if you want to"
"Ourselves?"
"Yes mate. I'm not changing my fucking tactics for anyone, but if you and Cuti want to ignore the tactics on the field then it's your responsibility".

:ange-hmm:

I do get baffled by player's when they say shit like "we played unbelievable football". Like, when? At the very start? Certainly don't remember any of that in the last 6 months

That is fucking wild.

So basically Postecoglou's tactics got us 17th place and our CBs as player/manager won us a European trophy.

Just curious why Neville always seem to hit us at the right moments with such interviews.. Done deliberately with the timing of recording/release no less. The entire fanbase and club become trippy as a result of these interviews not for the first time.

Like most Dutchmen he has a very direct, no-nonsense approach to talking which leaves little to interpretation. Endearing.

Interesting he said he prefers left back. He's a left back all day!

Spence-Cuti-Vuskovic-VDV next season with Udogie and Porro supporting would be a very good base. With this kind of defensive stability we could do away with a Palhinha type of midfielder, and play some more progressive players in the base of midfield as 3 of those defenders can step up into midfield in attack.

Imagine Vuskovic having both Cuti and VDV to learn from either side? His learning curve would be in fast forward.

If we can manage to get a new contract into him, I'd make him captain.

He has 3 years left on his contract, Real can pay 9 figures or fuck off. Or a straight swap for Rodrygo.

Nothing about his interview suggests he's in any rush to leave but Real Madrid are Real Madrid.

The players loved him because they didn't have to be disciplined and could express themsleves without any real responsibility on the field.

That's what it's all about.

It's like children who have parents that let them do what they want; they love 'em, but it's not good for the child!

I think the same about Poch. Mourinho seemed to be flabbergasted as to what he inherited in that regard

Nah, not for me.

Poch was much more disciplined and structured in approach than ange.

Overly so towards the end, in fact.

Poch was also a great motivator (in the first half of his tenure, anyway), but had a more balanced approach, overall.

Not sure how that computes. Dele didn't turn into a someone who couldn't be arsed with training overnight

It's a cool story the bro's are cooking but you know Horse's mouth etc...

Always check the source. :D

People aren't even watching the whole video and took that bit out of context to fit into one's own narrative. Look at VdV's endearing eyes when he spoke about Ange.

Then compared to this:
