Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There was a goal like that by Villa under Frank where they literally just passed the ball through the middle of us way too easily. Tbh it might even be a carbon copy because we had 5 at the back that day. Even if we had 4, the same thing happened, with 1 pass cutting through 2 lines and a 1-2 later and they scored.

It’s insane people can question VDVd position for this goal. Where is he meant to be? Him and Danso are fine.

Porro - no mans land. Should be the same distance to Danso as VDV is.
Gray - pretty much on the wing??? Why??
Sousa - could have been a bit more narrow. But he’s ok. Look where he ends up versus Gray.

And Vicario could have been a bit more alert. It’s an awful touch and he’s still in his 6 yard box. I don’t actually think the striker would get to the ball even with Vicario’s poor starting position.

But one of their players can just stroll to the centre circle and play a direct pass 15 yards straight to their CF with zero pressure on the ball.
Fuck me that’s awful.

And then blame your defender who was perfectly positioned and extremely unfortunate with a ricochet at close range.
Clueless.

The analysis is boring.

Van De Ven has hopefully got 8 games to play his heart out, to prove his admirers right, and to ram the words of his detractors down their throats.

If he helps to keep us in the PL, then he can do as he wishes, but once this season ends I hope he never ever puts on a Spurs shirt again.

We must find players who want to give their all every single game and who do so regardless of circumstance, and who keep their counsel.

I felt VDV was unlucky his clearance skied up and then he panics when Danso didn’t get there first for the header. People dig out Romero (sometimes he deserves it) but you can’t tell me he’s not getting to that header first.

It’s all VDV for the decision to yank Sarr back though. Easy mistake to make and some refs let it go, but it was a mistake and once the ref whistled it had to be red.

I don’t really know where Gray and Souza should be tbh because they were wing backs…they had fuck all to do with the goal though.

Tbh I still think Vicario was getting there first, even if he could be off his line quicker.

Agreed. Solanke no pressure on the pass, Gallagher and Palinha are doing what exactly? FFS. Palinha is meant to be a top DM in the league and that pass just pea rolls through the middle of us?

It’s a team fuck up from a lack of urgency, and VDV fuck up for being too urgent once the ball and man gets behind him.

IMO

Tudor doesn’t play a back four but if I were manager I would be playing him left back. Not just because we don’t have one but because I think he needs to play without the pressure of being a centreback for a few games to help him get his head right. He is obviously struggling.

What is forgotten is that he’s a pretty inexperienced player with only about 150 top flight games to his name, with nearly a third of those in Holland. He needs help and letting him free up his game, get a few surging runs in his legs from fullback might just be what he needs.

This is my main issue with 3 at the back.
Where should they be?? Do they know?

Not sure how much coaching experience you have but it’s a team game. You have to look at them all for the goal. Just part of the process all the time.
You are permanently looking at players off the ball as much as on it.
The higher you go up the coaching path the more attention it requires.

It’s all well and good saying they have nothing to do with the goal.

Gray is a wing back in this formation. Yet he’s deeper than Porro. I’m not digging him out. I’m just saying you lose a player who’s out defending nothing as he’s so wide, so you’ve effectively lost a midfielder who could be defending the middle of the pitch.

Sousa actually reads the danger So when VDV pulls down their forward who is the closest Spurs outfield player in the box??
Pause it at 3.57. Look how close he is to VDV. In line with him. Him, VdV and Vicario are a triangle about 3 yards apart.
Much closer than Porro who just has his hand in the air on the edge of the box. The other Centre back…,,

If Sousa starts just 2 -3 yards closer to VDV then VDV probably doesn’t get sent off.
That’s why it matters. Fine margins. Positional sense is important.

Remember being told by a CL winning coach football IS boring!! A sport where 0-0 is something to be celebrated when down right.

If you want non stop excitement watch basketball!

Don’t buy into all the players have shit attitudes either. If you watch that Maddison doc about his injury all the players come across as decent people. It’s a combination of a lot of things.
It is a combination of a lot of things and I agree all the players probably don’t have shit attitudes, but unfortunately I think the leaders within the squad probably do have questionable attitudes.

When you’ve got a squad compromising of a large number of young and impressionable players that isn’t going to help matters.

I only switched on as he should've been sent off. But I had a debate earlier with mates that he wasn't good and because he runs fast it makes him look better (I said I hoped he replaced Van Dijk for comedic effect). Usual football fans from other clubs telling me how great he is.

Then looked at my phone after I got off my work call to an apology text, and that they actually watched him and he's shite
