Player Mikey Moore

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think the idea was he goes up there and plays in a team flying with a new manager and winning every week but it’s been the complete opposite. It’s a toxic environment just now but it’s another side of the game he’s experiencing as the game gives you more kicks in the balls than pats in the back. Scottish football is good enough for him. If it wasn’t he’d be showing up better. Mikey would get totally swallowed up in the championship just now and if he does get recalled I think he’d be better going abroad.
Point taken to a point but the only thing I would add, and I'm not looking to troll here, how many English players from a club at or close to our level have sent a player on loan to Scotland and seen a worthwhile investment on the return. I can't think of one, of the top of my late night head but happy to be proven wrong.

I actually do, in relative terms but I appreciate that it's not a 24/7 thing on my part. But my main point is, which I did mention in a later post, was how many loan players go to Scotland and come back the better for it, in terms of clubs of our size and expectation, given Moore is seen along with Donley as one of our serious prospects?

Not sure why you’d watch something you think is so bad.

Nevertheless, I’m not convinced the plan was for Moore to come back fully ready for our first team. More to send him somewhere far enough from home that he is forced to mature and maybe toughen up, without the need to learn another language (insert joke about Glaswegian dialect here).

Yes, Scottish football is a bit shite, but probably a stretch for Moore right now, as his appearances so far are showing. Not sure he’d be getting the same minutes, in front of the same demanding crowds, against big bastard opposition players, in the Championship.

Maddison, famously.

Gennaro Gattuso too, right?

I'm aware of how transfer windows work. I mean at the earliest opportunity, so Jan 1st and have him somewhere else. He's going to rot in that situation
He's not rotting at all, he's playing regularly, started in the Europa League today.

The instinct to whisk him away from any environment in which he might struggle is precisely the wrong one for a young player.

Especially given that reportedly Mikey himself pushed for this move. Go grab this bull by the horns, son.

I watch Scottish football, to a degree, as I'm interested in football full stop, and not just the OF games, as much as I'll watch games from another league, as and when I can.

Scottish football is what it is, and I'm not here to criticise it, and I like to think I'm fairly objective about most things I post here (certainly football related). I go back to what I say, Moore imo, would be better of in at a Championship club, or L1 club, or even abroad (as much as I like footballers making the effort to learn another language, in this day and age it's not a necessity - though I think it should be). The goldfish bowl that is in particular Glasgow football is asking a lot from any player trying to make their way.

I’d certainly not want to play for that shower of cunts. I come out in a rash when I drive within 10 miles of their dump of a stadium.

There are some big things he needs to work on, especially defensively/tracking runners etc. and he needs to toughen up and improve his decision making.

As for all this shit about recalling him etc. I do think young players have to be tested and this will be a big test. I'd be surprised if he would want to abandon the job up there after the poor start if he's any kind of competitor.

He could have went to League 1 and maybe scored more goals etc. but that's nowhere near the same test as Ibrox. Fingers crossed it clicks for him soon, he needs a goal or a good performance sooner rather than later.

Still getting picked to start anyway, how long it's Martin doing it is anyone's guess, but they were a little hard done by 1st half IMO. The one Genk clearance off the line was unbelievable.

Is there anyone in the Rangers team this season that is impressing? There's something seriously wrong there at the moment. Mikey has talent. I don't know if he's going to be a top player but surely enough to make more of an impression than he currently is.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt given who the manager is and how the team is performing.

I think the only certainty is that this loan will either make or break him. It’s a tough but invaluable experience. The pressure and demands of First Team football bear no comparison to any youth or U21 experience. I hope he’s got good people around him and he’s learning, reflecting and growing mentally.

Very few go up to Scotland and do well and actually struggle for some reason. It’s strange because the English lads whether they are kids or even older players from lower levels are all bigger lads but the Scottish guys handle the pace and physicality of it better.
I remember madders came up to Aberdeen and you could see he was a talented and clever player but at times even by guys his size would just be more physical. He scored one brilliant free kick and maybe another but never really dominated. I’m sure Aberdeen yid will be able to tell us more on him at Pittodrie but I think he played maybe half of a season.

Taverneir was losing his shit with him last night because he was struggling to help him defensively.
He’s in a tough environment but it will make him better. Is he going to be the player we hope he’ll be? Only time will tell. I don’t think he’s a winger. I think he’s a 10 all day. He’s clever and moves well and that’s more suited to being more central or in the old inside left or right positions. He’ll never have that real burst to be a winger at the top level.

Russell Martin is an idiot. Keeps on playing him on the right when we all know that isn’t his position and he is so much more effective on the left-hand side. Ange did it a couple of times and he was hooked at halftime. Tells you all you need to know.
