Player Mikey Moore

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I hope Moore comes good, but another season at Rangers might not be a bad idea.

Always pull for an academy lad, but if he were not one of our own would we really be clamoring for an 18 year old with 1 goal involvement/200 minutes in Scotland? Don't think he'd even get mentioned in the transfer thread.

Where are you getting your stats from?
He's got 6 goals and 2 assists in 26 appearances, which isn't bad for a 19 year old who spent the first half of the season on the bench, or out of position.

Nah. Whatever happens this season, I want these type of players here.

If we stay up, I'd happily start next season building around Vuskovic, Moore, Gray etc.

If we go down, we need to hang on to as many of them as we can to try to get us back up.

I'm sick of watching mercenaries who don't give a shit.

One of the few positives of relegation for me will be to clear out the pricks that put us there and replace them with exciting young talent that hopefully will care more.

He's got those 8 goal involvement in 1642 minutes. ≈1(g/a)/200m.

Not saying it isn't bad for a 19 year old in his situation.

But if he wasn't someone we were already pulling for because he's our academy product, we likely wouldn't be talking about him. Certainly there are similar players throughout Europe and I don't see anyone clamoring for them to join our senior squad next season.

My point is just that everyone's expectations for how he might benefit Spurs next season are probably a little unrealistic and overly optimistic.

I see where you're coming from with the stats now but as always, stats are selective and rarely tell the whole picture.

Because under the tenure of Martin, the entire team were dreadful and Mickey was only getting sporadic appearances, often stuck out on the right wing where he was a little lost and not at all involved.

I'm not a statto but I'd suggest that most of his goal involvements and best performances have been since the new manager came in, so it would be fairer to condense things into that time and ignore the period under Martin.

But with that said, you're right in that the expectations are always higher for academy prospects and often unrealistically so but Moore is probably the best potential we've had for a long time, so I think it's understandable that people are almost willing him to succeed.
Plus with the current state of our first team, mentality wise, I do think we need to bring through some proper Spurs blood asap and build around them.

Would we be calling for him is he was somewhere else?
Probably not but he isn't, he's here and there's nothing better than seeing an academy player make the grade, which is something we've seen far too little of due to years of neglecting the academy.

He had a horrendous start but since settling by all accounts has been electric. We probably wouldn’t be clamouring for him if he wasn’t Spurs but he is and the club could really fucking do with an exciting young winger who came through the academy for the fans to get behind.

If we stay up maybe not, but absolutely he should come back and be playing if we’re in the championship next season.

Where have you heard that?
Same as most loanees doing well, got asked by the press if he'd be open to staying another year up there and said he'd have to talk it though with the club (us) but he'd love to go back if we thought it was the best move for him. Same with Vuskovic constantly getting asked if he'd like to stay in Germany for another year.
Can hear how 'guided' the questioning is (subtitles available):

Funny that no one is asking Hojberg, Veliz or Solomon to stay at their respective clubs....
Only the generational talents with huge potential like Moore & Vuskovic having to bat off that type of questioning...

Definitely want to see him succeed for Spurs. Agree its sorely needed.

Just think a full season at Rangers where he can build the confidence of playing like he has recently (apparently, I'm not watching fucking Scottish football - Spurs are bad enough) may set himself up better for front-foot earnest start at Spurs.

Better to come back a season too late than a seaaon too early and then lose his career on the training pitch like many young players.

For better or worse, whoever the manager is next season they're going to be more focussed on immediate results and not being the latest sacked Spurs manager than what is in the best interest of the club and Moore long term.

Yeah, I get that.
But if the worst case scenario happens and we do go down, I reckon a season in the championship will serve him better than a season in the SPL but that also depends on the manager and the direction the club wants to take.

Will we back and support the youth? Build round them?
Or will we buy a bunch of cheap old scrappers to drag us back up?

Yeah I agree. I think Mikey's making fantastic progress and looks a serious talent, but if he's scoring 6 goals in the SPL that could easily translate to like 1 goal in the PL - basically Odobert levels which has been proven isn't good enough for what we need.

If we go down I think everything changes and he could get a solid amount of gametime for us in the Championship - that's the ideal level for him next season imo - but I really think all those people saying BRING HIM BACK FFS would be slagging him off before long when he's getting eaten alive by PL full-backs and boddied off the ball.

I think he's gonna be a decent PL player and his technique is immaculate, but it's literally the hardest league in the world and he's still so young. Regular mins at a Champ club next season would be waaaaay better for him than throwing him in at the deep end in the PL where if he's not getting instant returns he'll be labelled a failure.

I have refused to acknowledge relegation, but yeah - I we go down it goes without saying that Moore and some of the other young players need to be stuck in heavily.

If we do go down, which is looking very likely, I'd expect Odobert to get a lot of minutes on the wing, with Moore in the #10. That's where he's going to be a mainstay IMO.

Both will benefit from regular game time in the Championship.
