Match Newcastle Away 1.30pm Sunday Sept 1

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I miss the days of Lloris, Rose, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Walker with Waynama, Sandro and/or Dembele in front of them. An organised back four with a dominating central midfield. We attacked as a team and more importantly defended as a team.

What’s sad is ‘on paper’ we’ve some very good defenders but Ange’s tactics leave them exposed. Even if we sign a qualify defensive midfield our defence will still be exposed. Is Ange really the answer?
Even on paper Romero, Porro and Udogie are bang average defenders. And I'm being nice, especially to the latter two.

Came into the match fearing the worst and for the most part we did pretty well. We need to address how our players make so many individual mistakes or have lapses in concentration. We will always be vulnerable with our high line (which worries me), and until we have better quality in attack we will continue to have off days in front of goal (although I think Solanke improves us). Story of Spurs since the incredible start last year is dominate the ball, look the better side for most of the game but the opponents often punish us with better clear cut chances. Personally I think we would be better suited to a back 3, the extra person back should help us not concede so many. Very worrying that we conceded so many last season, you need to be able to win games 1-0, you can’t rely on 2,3,4 goals to win games.

So you can't find anything racist that I've said, yet you accuse me of racism??...is this how it works in your police force Sammy?..

Not allowed to discuss politics so you and the gang have taken to harassing me across the football forums instead, fun stuff.

I don't like you, what you stand for, and fundamentally who you are. So I'd suggest boring somebody else.

Have a fantastic afternoon.

Because thats going to happen with this squad, right

Why the consensus on bossing the game today? Imo Odobert missed the single good chance which was created today - zipping the ball around the penalty area or striking it outside are not big chances.

Tough season ahead, we will have plenty of such games. Even with Dom or Richy fit. We dont create that many chances. Im not sure if I am watching the same games, there are some good enough patches but its not like a clockwork of getting those shots on target.

A bit more realism would be great. This is all pretty average with a slightly above average squad. Been shit in away games all year long
Without trying to be a melt , no I don’t see it happening , we have some good players but as a team there is just something missing - it’s not just a players issue either , I think part of it is a mentality issue.
I’d love to be proved wrong but I don’t think a fit Solanke and Richie suddenly changes things , maybe we just need to be patient and hope some of the young players turn into quality, still for a club so rich and financially sound I’d like to have seen us with a good mix of experience to help the youth out.

It's fucking written.

Nah, let's be honest we make the same mistakes over and over and never do anything or learn.

Despite our 2nd half dominance not once did I feel comfortable. 1 ball in behind in a split second and they score is all it takes.

Live and die by the sword and all that. Only one way this is going for Ange.
You can talk about chances etc. But we need to score 2-3 goals a game minimum with the way we are setup. Even if you put Solanke or Richy out there, we can't rely on them scoring that volume this season.
Yeah, absolutely no chance we are scoring 2-3 goals a game in this league with Solanke and Richy imo.

Maybe occasionally but consistently? Very doubtful.

You look at City and how much horse face is scoring for them but then look at the quality around him and the individual quality he has and sure, 2-3 goals a game is possible but even then, still unrealistic.

Top teams in this league rely just as much on defending as they do on attacking, it's the fundamentals we are failing at.

The result is frustrating but how can you watch us totally dominate the game and say there is no improvement from last season? We got utterly humiliated here last season, they pissed on us and beat us without breaking a sweat.

This game was completely different, they were forced to defend for their lives. We also had to play without VDV and Dragusin stepped in and did very well. Lots of positives to take despite the terrible result.
Mainly because we fell foul to the exact same counter attacks as we’ve done the last 9 months. We lose the same way every single time we lose.

What in the actual clusterfuck has happened to Udogie
He's had his game ruined.

Not a happy bunny and looks like he doesn't want to be here.

For his skillset, Ange is getting nothing out of him.

If he's going to be a risk in giving the ball away deep, then at least make sure you're getting proper value out of him at the other end.

As it stands his game has been completely nullified by inversion.

How the flying fuck in the name of fuck haven't we won that game. Domination yet just like Leicester don't make our chances count. Really missed Solanke or dare I say it even Richarlison, our lack of depth off the bench is clear (although Johnson was brilliant). Fuck St. James' Park.
One word……Romero!

I usually don't like digging out an individual player, but he’s becoming a major liability when what you want from your CB is solidity!

Because i watched us totally dominate plenty of games last season and not win.

Take Villa West Ham manyoo last season. Exactly the same.

There’s been no improvement at all.

It’s too naive and our attackers just aren’t good enough.

I’m not even sure you can legislate for Romero going walkabouts on both goals. If that’s Ange telling him then it’s on Ange, but I don’t think Romero is the spunkbread many others do.

If VDV was fit I’d rest Romero and put Dragusin there for a couple of weeks.
It keeps happening though and that points to a lack of discipline positionally, so is that because he isn't doing as he is told? Or is it because the system is allowing our defenders too much freedom.

I think it's the latter.
