Match Newcastle Away 1.30pm Sunday Sept 1

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think this is just part of the growth. Overall a good performance. Last two times there we got absolutely blitzed and crumbled. Today we dominated them but weren’t ruthless and had some lapses defensively. We’ll be ok. Trust the process.

Not often I disagree with you my man, but I will here...albeit partly.

The players fucked it repeatedly up front and at the back, yes...but what do you expect from that lot? Romero, Porro, Udogie are massively overrated. Biss and Mads, our midfield leaders, are uber inconsistent. Sarr hasn't had a good game since the big bang. Odobert should be playing for Leicester or Ipswich. Kulu, Johnson, Timo...need I say anything? Sonny up front? Ditto. The squad has a whole has a glaring lack of heart, guts and intelligence. It ain't melting, it's a friggin reality.

But that suicidal defending week in week out for the past year and a bit? That's on Ange. That tiki taka slow, ponderous bullshit and that one trick of crossing it low to the 6yd box? That's on him too. Being happy with that squad? That's on him also.

9th richest club in the world. All that ballsy talk from our chairman and HC about being serious about winning. That's just fucking bullshit.

Could've lost to Leicester. Smashed the worst Everton side in decades. Beaten by the barcodes which everyone with half a brain knew was coming (and how).

Best case scenario: we'll finish 5th, with another 10ish league Ls, and might reach a semi in the domestic cup + quarters of EL. But we ain't winning shit or closing the gap on proper top clubs.

This is true but a lot of this is down to personnel. Now we're told these are Ange choices and he says he's happy but for me its a pretty familiar story. And again I think we'll hear what he really thinks further down the line. We've signed him a bunch of kids and straight up bargain basement plugs like Werner. Not sure we can expect to push on with this level of ambition, not under anybody.

I've criticised Ange a lot for other games, but specifically for this one .. I can't say much about it on a coaching level. The press worked magnificently, yeah we had the high line but the risk/reward ratio was right and we were getting in to the box a LOT more in dangerous situations. Had Romero (the best cb in the world and Madrid bound we're told) decided to position himself properly we'd probably have come away with a win.

But yeah I agree with the rest - we're going nowhere fast, it's another fight for a finish somewhere in the top six. But not sure how much of that can be placed squarely at Ange's door. I have my doubts about him as a coach (a lot of bluster tbh) but personnel today was the main issue. If he's genuinely very happy with the squad then sure, he can take a big share of the blame..

Another poor result away from home. Got plenty of chances to score, but we also gift the opposition better ones. Ange defensively doesn't work in this league, the high line is exposed. You can't rely on last ditch defending to win games every week.

Positive today was Brennan Johnson. He should be a bench player until he can show that level weekly. Can see why Ange rates him and we all slate him. He gets the head down and hits it into a specific area expecting someone to be on the end of it. Does it every week. Today every time he did it he turned and looked at Ange, almost begging, what else is he meant to do. Desperately missed having Richarlison today, good at getting on the end of those. Personally, I feel we should have more intelligent wingers who can look up and pick the pass/cross.

Next game is going to be important for our season trajectory. Need to be better at both ends of the pitch.
I very much doubt Ange has endorsed Romero’s walkabout today!

Watch back the two goals. The first he was on some suicidal solo press at the half way line!

Romero cost us that game today, not the general tactics.

Ange needs to bench his arse!
