Still remains the last manager to win at Anfield and the Emirates with Spurs. Over a decade ago now.
Despite their problems, both Mourinho and Conte turned up and had ideas that could hurt the biggest sides. As did Poch of course.

It's how you beat City for the most part. Most teams can't achieve it because they haven't got the players of Son and Kane's calibre able to do what those two have done in that fixture for the last few years.
Was it? Last manager to win a league game at Emirates, beat them and Chelsea at home back to back in 2009/10. Beat Liverpool 5 times, winning at Anfield and a 4-0 at home. We were shit against Man U as most were at the time.
There's too much talent up and down the Premier League now for pure defensive football to work in the Premier League.
You can build your team around a strong defense of course, but you need to have an attacking plan that is more than just counter attacks. Because even the strongest defense can be breached and then it is up to you to go on the attack. Even Dyche and Hodgson have clear attacking plans, and they are the Premier League standard for defensive football.
I'd revise "work" to "compete to win", but agreed.
That's the story of Mourinho's reigns at United and Spurs. You can't put England to the sword like that anymore.
That Emirates win was a skanking. I’m pretty sure his general record against the top sides was awful, I remember doing a toy up previously. Liverpool were pretty shit back then, no?
More’s the point, our performances against top sides under Redknapp invariably just reverted to the submissive bus park and break. Win or not, it wasn’t sustainable ethos.
Just to be pedantic, Dempsey was actually sold before Bale, they played together that 1 season.

Just not true. We were superb in certain games against them, the Chelsea and Woolwich ones in 09/10 we absolutely dominated. Liverpool in 11/12 we were all over them and won 4-0. Man City away when we got champions league, all front foot. Certainly better than what preceded and what followed him. It was a very enjoyable 3.5 seasons.
That Peter Crouch header against City was magic. I remember drinking until about three in the morning with my mates, convinced this was a new era.

It's because of how the squads are built.
They have a squad and just need a good tactician to get the best out of them.

I expect we will but he won’t be the only chap we will talk to. I think we have to speak to him really, he’s a proven manager out of a job. But if we are speaking to him we have to be speaking to Poch.
He's going to be another Conte (although a lot more charismatic). He's going to think that we're beneath him, and on the first sign of struggle he'll throw everyone under the bus. Love Lucho as a person, but he's so not suited for Spurs.
Not sure what we are slower at, transfer or manager searches.
