Here you go for a pretty good explanation Matt. In short Player Power - Failure to clear out players - Been similar story for every manager since Poch it seems.

Posted same video a few pages back on this thread so apologies for the repetition.

In short poch burnt the squad out with excessive training and high tempo in matches and had to change playing style to a more pragmatic deeper style ( a style that meant at home to a desperate Newcastle side our only effort in the 1st half was a scuffed 25 yard effort from winks in the 40th minute that dribbled wide)
And after losing the champ lge final he went into a major sulk pissing off the entire squad - hardly player power but proves sacking him (but continuing to pay his considerable wages for 9 months) was the right decision

And we should have turned the squad over but instead ENIC decided to cater to the players. This is blasphemy, but remember when Dav first got here... he was fucking good under Poch. He had replaced Toby. And then somehow Poch gets canned and Toby is back in the starting 11.

I mean they’re not all going to have the same personalities, the encouraging thing about this list is they all look to play progressive football and actually would want our side to have possession of the football.

Last managerial search was all over the place in terms of playing style of the team, this list seems at the very least is pretty clear on that.
Getting someone like Enrique, who clearly values a more technichal pressing style of football, would be a net positive in the long term even if his particular tenure ends up not being a short term success. Because he would develop the technical ability of our existing players as well as push for the signing of more technical players as well.

So whoever would take over for Enrique would be walking into a better coached squad when that day comes.

But if we go for Luis I hope that we actually give him the patience and time to build something in the long term and not just the short.

Narrative behind Arteta and Woolwich is always abit muddled.

You only have to check since Arteta took over and compare them to ours and see there really hasn't been much in it and mostly going down to the final game or so.

19/20 - 3 points behind us
20/21 - 1 point behind us
21/22 - 2 points behind us

And now this year, they find themselves 20 points clear of us.

Hes been just what they needed. Their Pochettino really. Got rid of the deadwood and big egos, promoted youth and got them playing good fearless football all whilst taking advantage of a year where most of the top teams have struggled.
And yet they are going to choke again this year aren’t they. Let’s see what the fan reaction is then shall we.

I'm not sure the fans will care all that much on the surface. They will play it off as them being ahead of schedule. Finished 5th last year and then 2nd this year having took the best team in the country the distance etc.

We'll all laugh of course. It'd be the biggest bottle job in history. But we'd all love to be in their position right now.

Can’t say Paratici hasn’t been targeting proper footballers since he’s been here.

Maybe Spence and Undogie are a bit raw. But most of our other incomings can play ball

It’s the players we haven’t been able to move on who are holding us back. Dead weight in every sense.

To be fair to Fabio, he's always been a talent spotter. His absolute strenghts was always as a scout. That was how he broke through at Sampdoria and later at Juventus.

In hindsight he probably should never have taken the career leap from scout to DoF.
