Heard the athletic podcast earlier in the week and I agree with Dan kelly. He said the new manager must want to be here, play attacking football and progress the good youngsters we have coming through.
To me that sounds like Pochettino or at least how Pochettino was when he first came to us.
It doesn’t have to be him though, the Brighton manager, the sporting manager or someone like that. I think most fans could take a backward step if we took a longer term view of building something with younger players a more attacking style and a club strategy that everyone is onboard with.
But I fear the club will go for Enrique or tuchel Paratici and ENIC need their head on spikes outside the stadium if this is the case
Seeing the fallout and “leaks” post Conte rant I think if our next manager is going to be successful they need to really focus on man management as well. After volatile Conte, mute Nuno and primadonna Mourinho (even the moodiness of Poch at the end) our players just seem absolutely bereft of mental resolve.

Obviously as they’re being paid millions to do this job, the responsibility lays at the feet of each individual player - but still, we need a manager who can galvanise a squad behind an ethos and get the confidence/resilience/belief up.

Someone who:
  • has performed at a high level for at least a few years, preferably in a top 5 league;
  • can restore solidarity with supporters by playing proactive, high tempo football and developing youngsters;
  • can make a statement to the team by rooting out average players, e.g. Dier, PEH, Sess, loanees and building upon a clear vision;
  • is willing to stick around during the inevitable early setbacks as the team is rebuilt and shaped;
  • can put the proverbial 'arm around a player' and give them constructive advice on how to improve.
Poch obviously ticks all these boxes and has years of experience and past non-trophy successes to speak to, and I'd absolutely love to see him back, but I'm not sure this is his shitstorm to navigate. The post-Poch hangover is now 4 years running and we're all looking for something familiar to tether ourselves to, but it would be heartbreaking to have him leave again (and likely for the last time) if/when it all goes tits up.

Managers that could fit the profile above:

Arne Slot
Roger Schmidt
Marcello Gallardo (tactically flexible but unproven in Europe)
de Zerbi (unlikely to leave Brighton + big payout)
Ange Postecoglou (outside shout)

I would be happy with any of them tbh.

She'd be right at home here.

We're a poison chalice to any manager that comes. After Conte put us on blast today (not really arguing with what he said) who in their right mind would come and take over?
Someone who actual puts his head down and manages, instead of blaming everything on the club, the players, the tea lady? You know, someone like a Poch. Although I would rather it be someone that turns out to be the new Poch, rather than getting back the original.

Luis Enrique (Martinez) is still my go to pick.

But I also think that if we are smart, we'd go for someone at one of the big clubs in the Netherlands or Portugal, maybe Scotland for Postecoglou. A manager that is used to competing at the top of the table and for trophies. But who is also used to having to rebuild his team with some regularity. And then let that manager establish a real culture shift at the club.

Amorim, Schmidt, Slot or Postecoglou would all appease the fans as far as the football goes.
If you're looking for a manager that is used to competing at the top of the table and for trophies and is used to rebuilding his teams, Gallardo is the man.

Possibly the most impressive thing is that of the crop of River players chasing a place in the 2019 Cope Libertadores final (which they got to, falling 2-1 to Flamengo), only one player formed part of the squad that won the trophy in 2015. Regularly losing your best talent to European clubs really is the bane of every Argentine manager’s job, but that didn't seem to phase Gallardo.

For me I want a risk taker. The reason why I like Kompany is not only has he got Burley smashing the Championship playing great football he believes in it.

Went to City and in the first half the comparably shit Burnley team tried to take the game to City and played some good stuff, quality difference player for player was immense and in the end they lost 6-0 to a brilliant City team but there was no fear trying to play the right way. Most championship managers would have just parked the bus and still lost by the same score.

He might be too soon but I want someone like that. Someone who believes in front football football, has a style the club can build around long term. Our history and our motto is about attacking and taking risks. If that manager is De Zerbi or whoever but the reason why Poch is so loved by the fans is he developed the players and made us play with balls mostly getting you off your seat. We need a long term manager who is great at growing players and plays with balls.

I don’t want anymore defensive managers and I don’t want a possession manager who wants possession for the sake of possession. I want someone who will push the boundaries and yes that might mean like Ten Hag you lose a game 7-0 while building the side but we have to take risks.
The thing is, that you also want a manager that adapts to the opponent. Was a criticism of Poch that we always played the same way, regardless of who the opponent was. That we should be more defensive and rely on the counter playing the bigger teams and take our game to the lesser opposition.

I do not see the fact that Kompany took the game to City as a plus, because it was not pragmatic. And it's not like he wanted to bin the cup, because his team are in a promotion fight. They're as good as promoted and he could afford to go deeper into the the competition. Unless he was trying to impress the City management, the way Burnley approached the game was suicidal.

Yes, we all want a manger that sets the team up to play expansive football, but if his record against the rest of the top 6 is 0-10 with 30 goals conceded, there will be grumbling. We want expansive football when it's appropriate and we want results-based football when that's what the situation dictates.

Supporters are asking for Poch back, I liked him but bringing back the same manager for a second time never really works. We should be looking at someone who who can bring a change and commands respect.
Although to say that I am all for a change of ownership.
