Although Liverpool had 50% more revenue than us at the time, I don't think the issue with Mane was the transfer fee. If I remember correctly, the issue the salary. We had a very strict salary structure and offering to Mane what Liverpool offered would have broken it. And breaking it would have had a cascading effect. You offer one player 130K/wk, then all of sudden you need to increase the salaries of your other star players and the wages start exceeding where you need them to be. This is particularly important when you are building a new stadium and need to be very careful with your finances.

Yet in spite of that, we still did manage to make it to a CL final. You can go back and find a million things that, if we had done differently, may have resulted in a different result in that final. But you can equally find a million different things that would have resulted in us never making that final.

He has a group of players suited to his style. As long as they buy into his idea, I can see him being a success at Real Madrid. Vinicius, Rodrygo, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Militao and even to a lesser extent Alaba are tailor-made players for his system. And as I said, Florentino Perez likes him a lot. According to Spanish media he is the overwhelming favourite to take that job.

I don't think Pochettino has the personality for the biggest club in the world and this....

No Modric soon, Benzema or Kroos soon after.

No chance he will succeed in my opinion unless they get Mbappe and a n others of quality.

There are right times to take jobs and the wrong times.
