But if he fails with those criteria he won't buy very attractive on the coach market.

I see a 95% risk it only goes downhill from such an appointment.

Not even Jose and Conte could win at Spurs.

If he doesn't win here, it hardly touches his status.

The risk/reward is absolutely better for Nagelsmann or anyone taking the Spurs job over Chelsea right now. And we have a better team. Kane looks like he's staying, Son deffo is. Kulu is...

The squad needs a refurb but it's much closer to where it needs to be than Chelsea.

Is anyone else thinking they really didn't want Enrique but now that Chelsea have turned him down, they are so clueless, that probably means he's a better option that we thought?
Eh, I think that's reading too much into the rumors put out there by journalists that probably have little to no idea what is actually going on.

If you want an indication of how much these journalists actually know, why was there no reporting AT ALL about the fact that we were working for months on creating a new Chief Football Officer position to run the entire club? We then filled that role with someone nobody ever heard of.

These journalists need to report something so they just trot out the same names with various shades of grey around them.

It's a mix of that and also a PR battle for the clubs.

Nobody wants to be seen as the club that got rejected or the club that had sloppy seconds.

Chelsea are most definitely briefing journalists, directly or indirectly.

The Enrique story is either:

"Chelsea have cooled their interest so Spurs are now allowed to talk to him" ...

because Chelsea are the big dogs and Spurs need to wait until they eat and get the scraps...

or

"Enrique asked for things the Chelsea board wouldn't promise him so there is no deal from both sides".

If it was this one, then you can see why Chelsea would prefer it looked like it was the first one. Especially if the Spurs board were better able to offer him the things he wanted when they couldn't.

Not that we are too big for anyone right now, we are in need of assistance big time.

But the more I think about, the happier I am about Enrique coming in
The one thing with Enrique he won’t stand for mediocrity. Everyone said Conte was this hard nosed Disciplinarian but he put up with players doing fuck all week in week out. Enrique has previous with falling out with players so he does it his way and his teams keep the fucking ball. For me that change in how we play is vital.
That’s something that we can’t do for more than 5 passes. We constantly lose possession so we have to defend and by the time we win it and move 60 yards up the pitch the players look like they are running in treacle.
Go back and look at how Spain played at the World Cup. They played some great stuff. They battered Costa Rica 7-0,were excellent against Germany, played Japan off the pitch and couldn’t get the second goal to kill them off and the same against Morocco.
If he had us play that way with Kane in the team we’d destroy teams. If he got the job he must be allowed to get a keeper,2 centre backs and 2 creative attacking midfielders(Maddison,Olmo types)
Biss and Bentancur can move the ball quick enough to play that way. Quick full backs in Porro and Udogie getting forward and sonny, deki or Richi to play up top with Harry.
This is the manager we need to get.

Yeah, tbh I'm thinking exactly this way now.

Even above Nagelsmann or Poch.

I think the most likely thing was Enrique wanted to take over there straight away. Plus he wanted to cull half the squad including players the new owners just bought and they didn’t like the sound of that. Any new manager they interview would want the same thing and to bring in their own players on top of that.

Luis Enrique has only taken Spain to one World cup, Qatar.

Lopetegui was the Spanish manager in Russia 2018. Well, more accurately he took Spain to Russia but was sacked two days before Spain's first game, with Fernando Hierro, the Director of Football taking over as caretaker manager for the tournament.
Fair enough I thought Wikipedia had him down as taking them to two world cups but I either read it wrong or it's wrong.

Still don't want Enrique though regardless
