Sheringham said that Ossie was about to sign Maradona but decided not to due to his issues.

It’s a shame really, if I was Sugar I would’ve signed him anyway. You just can’t pass an opportunity like that. But I can understand why he wouldn’t want to deal with that as a coach.
 
I remember watching Argentina win the WC in 1978...and Ardiles running the show in MF.
Mario Kempes got almost all the publicity but Ardiles and Passarella were the corner stones of that WC winning team.

And Fillol, the goalkeeper. An under rated team, they left the teenage Maradona out of that squad and still won it.

Maradona played in Italy against Baresi, Maldini etc and still said Passarella was the best defender he ever saw.
