Match OTHER MATCHES FRED - 2021/22

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Anyway, I'm done defending Reece James. Poor decision, poor rule, and the ref has probably spoiled what was shaping up to be an excellent second half. Now it will be defence vs. attack.

I think the ref has done pretty well overall to be honest, he wasn't giving a foul everytime Anfield screamed for one. For the penalty/red card, if that is the rule then he's just enforcing it. I don't like the rule, but can't really blame the ref for it.

Obviously, if that's given against Spurs then I'm gonna go mental lol
why didn't he yellow Salah for gesturing to the linesman and then kicking the ball away then?

If that's Dele he gets booked all day long

I don't think so but maybe I am missing something in the technically aspect of your post.
I was talking about the rules, although it doesn't always have to be "deliberate".

It is an offence if a player:

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised
  • scores in the opponents' goal:
    • directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper
    • immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental
I didn’t see anything about preventing a goal. (Edit now I have but still has to be a handball offence as defined above)

A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
  • denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)

The thing is that after it comes off his thigh, James moves his arm to the ball. It's not a simple ricochet that he is powerless to prevent.
The ball hit the top of Reece’s thigh and he had his arm behind his back which is normal. As soon as he realised the ball was gonna slide over his thigh he moved his arm out to stop it. Handball for a pen, Red Card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Simple

If you don't like the double jeopardy punishment, that's on the lawmakers to change it, not the referee for correctly enforcing said rules.

This.

It doesn't just ricochet up onto his the arm. As it's making the impact on his arm, he scoops the ball forward and out of danger.

I feel for James, but it's his instincts that fucked him over there; not the ref.
