Ajax are absolutely sensational.

I’m delighted with Conte, but ten Hag is the best up and coming coach in Europe bar none and we should have moved heaven and earth to appoint him last summer.

Whatever club gets him is an extremely lucky one.

RBL reminded me of that late year 1 Poch Spurs, and Poch's PSG reminded me of late year 1 Mourinho Spurs.
Poch does cut a very different persona on the touchline at PSG, you could still here him on the TV when at Spurs to "puuussh" when he was asking the team to squeeze up the pitch. You don't hear that now, always arms folded or sat, which I always used to see that when he wasn't at his best pleased.

But to have one of the highest-pressing managers in the game charged with this lot (front 3/4, the rest of the team are working their nuts off but always 3/4 men short) just emphasises the total ineptitude at DoF level at PSG (same here at Spurs for the same reasons).

*Neymar, but he's actually the one that does the "pressing" of front 3.

Having watched that, PSG's problem is far more than just their inability to press, they are awful at everywhere on the pitch.
They play a 7--------3 formation (taking the slight piss here) they are simply not a team, but a group of talented footballers thrown onto a pitch that tries to defend whilst always outnumbered, drawing teams onto them to then launch counter-attacks.

Every single game I watch, I see the most overrated player in the world (Mpappe) fuck up that counter, then will get a bit of luck to tap one in and the World's Press keep his halo shining to sell more merch.

I followed Kessi around the pitch once he came on with 20 odd mins to play. Possissionaly good and had a very good defensive action in the last moments in the game but thought he was meh, lost a couple of duels and played two poor headers that went unpunished.
Thanks

Great to know the input of such seasoned and experienced scout such as yourself

This always bothered me...... I want someone to be at their most animated when they're not happy; not to sit slumped in a quasi-sulk.

Meh….The players know, or should know.

Depending on who the manager is, how he communicates, whether he has their buy in or not doesn’t really matter.

If they are playing poorly screaming or shouting, bouncing up and down the touch line dose fuck all. The players would welcome some advice on how to change things more than anything.

Not really in a position to have a cup of tea and a chat in-game though are you.....?

Ergo, get involved from the sideline the best you can.... Project that 'advice' in the only manner left available to you.... Rally the troops.... Inject enthusiasm/motivation the best you can.

(Besides, by that token and as per your previous post... Shouldn't they "know" when to "push" too? Why bother making that instruction from the sideline either....?)

They haven't played a top team yet. Beating 10 men Dortmund without Haaland isn't anything too phenomenal. Dortmund themselves are bang average more often than not even with Haaland.

Not saying they aren't a good side, or aren't enjoyable to watch. But "absolutely sensational" is a bit of a stretch. I'd expect the likes of Liverpool, Bayern and City to thump them over two legs down the line.

Dortmund bang average? They literally a point behind Bayern in the League.

Everyone expected Bayern, Juventus and Madrid to “thump” Ajax in 2019 too but all three were royally humbled. Nobody will easily beat them this year either.

We'll see. I think they had a considerably better team then than they do now. Haller's doing great for them but I haven't forgot how shit he was for West Ham.

Without Haaland I think Dortmund are pretty mediocre when compared to the better teams in Europe.

He’s built a new team from the ashes of that outstanding 2019 team though.

He has Timber in place of De Ligt, Gravenberch in place of de Jong, Antony in place of Ziyech etc.

Very few managers would be able to build such a competitive team again so soon after having one completely dismantled.

Also, Ajax have smashed Dortmund 4-0 with Halaand this season, and that was a score line that flattered Dortmund…

Fair enough! I haven't seen much of them of late to be fair. They've always been an entertaining side to watch though. Will be fun to see them go up against Liverpool or City.
