You, yourself have just said it...England will struggle with him in the MF because of his deficiency in basic MF traits. The problem isn't what he brings as there is little debate that he gets about and 'does stuff'. The problem is that those things aren't a good mix for any MF setup...it leaves you looking for another unconventional combination of qualities in order to accommodate him.
Were he positionally disciplined then perhaps you could put him at the 6. But he's a border collie on speed so you can't do that. And he also lacks press resistance and distribution so you'll have deficiencies at the 8 if placed there. He would be PERFECT for Pirlo-era Juve or Milan...he could be your Ambrosini/Gattuso or your Marchisio/Vidal...and that leaves you getting all your creativity from 1 person and everyone already knows how to stop that.

He seems to think unless you’re Modric you’re not world class .. when modric was a one in a million centre mid. 99.9% of centre mids specialise in things and midfields are all about balance. Kroos would’ve struggled in a 3 with two other playmakers who had no legs. Rice will struggle with 2 other box to box types who offer no control.
It’s aesthetic bias, that’s all it is. He is objectively incredibly effective at midfield stuff. People rate a Valverde, don’t they?

Proper 50-50. PSG are a fine team but they've definitely been hyped a bit too much. Liverpool are miles off the teams they had under Klopp yet PSG only edged that tie. They also did deserve to go through against Villa overall but could very easily have been waking up today out of the CL when you consider the chances Villa squandered. They'll come unstuck soon unless they defend a hell of a lot better.
