He seems to think unless you’re Modric you’re not world class .. when modric was a one in a million centre mid. 99.9% of centre mids specialise in things and midfields are all about balance. Kroos would’ve struggled in a 3 with two other playmakers who had no legs. Rice will struggle with 2 other box to box types who offer no control.

It’s aesthetic bias, that’s all it is. He is objectively incredibly effective at midfield stuff. People rate a Valverde, don’t they?
Totally agree, it's the aesthetics. Rice looks a bit ungainly. It's like Waddle was accused of being lazy because his gait made him look like he was knackered 5 minutes after kick off, yet he'd regularly skin his FB throughout a match.

I have to be honest, I didn't really rate Rice myself initially, but he's undoubtedly hugely effective. He's actually improved with the filth as he's played more and I'd put him up there as one of the top 3-5 midfielders in World Football which, IMO, makes him World class.

I saw it suggested that he has no creativity. He might not have the same sort of vision that the most creative midfielders have, but he's one of the best dead ball specialists around, and I'm referring to his corner kicks more than anything else here, he can land a ball on a sixpence from a corner.

I now feel nauseous extolling the virtues of a filthy player, but the truth is often unpalatable.

Both semi finals are as close to 50/50 as you'll get. There's no clear favourite. Barcelona have the best attack but are vulnerable at the back. PSG, as brilliant as they are on the counter, could and should have conceded 5 or 6 against Aston Villa. Woolwich have as much of a chance as the other 3 remaining teams but it has to be said that Real Madrid really aren't a very good side this season. Inter probably have the weakest squad and starting 11 out of the four remaining teams, but they thrive on being underdogs.

You’d take Rice before Saliba? or Saka?

Haha easily before Saliba.

Saka, Rice and then Saliba are their three best players. And Saliba is a distant third. A very good centre back but that’s it, he’s not a titanic influence like prime Van Djik, just a very good CB.

Rice is their player of the season and was 2nd for it last season too. He’s inevitable. Utterly dominated Madrid over two legs.

The best midfielder off the ball in the world, and on the ball he’s fucking great too. Unbelievable midfielder.

I hate Woolwich like anybody else, but are some of you really devaluing rice’s quality? World class player

I think they are looking at his flaws. Which is he isn’t great on the half turn which is very important if you play the 6 role and his passing is often quite vanilla rather than look at his qualities which is excellent positioning, physically dominate, massive engine, aggressive ball carrier.

He is perfect in a team that plays 3 in the middle with him as a the ball winning 8 like Woolwich do. He is the Harrod’s Hojbjerg.

I wish everyone would stop waffling on about how great Woolwich are. Madrid were shit. PSG will muller them

I don't know where this love in with PSG has suddenly come from? They beat a far from great Liverpool side who have got worse as the season as progressed. They then have their keeper to thank for not conceding more than 3 goals this week against Aston Villa, who are a poorer version of Woolwich. People seem to talk about them as if they're as good as the Guardiola Barca team. They're good to watch but I really don't see them as having more of a chance than the other three remaining teams.

Rice is absolutely quality.

The saddest thing for us, is under Levy, we will never sign a player like Rice, no matter how good they are on the pitch, we will just never do it, and that says it all about Levy and ENIC. Depressing.
