How much Italian football do you watch, mate?

Milan have a history of bringing in older players, and Modric still performs at a high level. Inter built their CL final team around older players (albeit not quite 39yo).

6 CL medals and 4 Liga titles. If anything our squad is sorely lacking in that kind of experience.

As I said, it's that simple.

Let's see how well the Italian clubs defend their two European trophies this season, or how well the national team defend the World Cup next year

Italian football is nowhere near what it used to be, and signing a 39 year old is all the proof I need,however magnificent that player has been.
