hmmm they didn't get 30m for him?

they agreed to loan him for 3m with a 27m OPTION.

Fair enough. My wording was inprecise. Still, did you miss my main point on purpose?

They have proven with yet another player that they're beating the market. A highly competetive market place against opponents with significantly more resources. An on paper weird deal doesn't change that.

Because it's only a weird deal at first glance imho. They'll know that Raya will 95% take Ramsdale's spot. The 5% being 2 % risk of injury or 3% risk that Arteta is a complete moron. Both numbers and eye tests dictates that has to be the case. If so, Woolwich will obv take up the 27m. If they don't, within those 5%, then Brentford get 3m + a 30m keeper back (the only reason he wasn't sold for 30m+ this summer was that them lot had Brentford's nuts in a tight grip with Raya only wanting Woolwich, which will not be the case if he returns knowing that Arteta is a moron).

If Raya flops that means he doesn't get games and Woolwich send him back to Brentford which means his value drops significantly and they'll be stuck in the same situation they're in now.

Anyway my point was that they could have had the cash from us earlier in the window but they were too stubborn and didn't think we would back out, now they have to settle on this deal which is risky.

True.

You're missing a step though. Brentford knows the exact parameters in terms of the risk of him flopping. Again, they've proven time and time, they know their shit, and the risk of his performances dropping off a cliff after six stellar seasons is miniscule. I'll take their numbers, and the numbers I can see myself, and my own eye test over you randomly saying if....

Edit: Point being, it isn't a binary calculation of either he succeeds or he fails. There's layers to it. This understanding is where Benham and Bloom, with their backgrounds, outperforms the chairmen/DOFs/scouting departments of other clubs imo.

There's also the risk of Ramsdale stepping up and keeping him out the team, what happens if Raya barely plays for the year?

Another random if....

But I'll bite. Were that to happen, then Brentford, Benham and his team would get to spend an entire season laughing their asses off and praises the lord that Arteta isn't their manager. He will not lose very much value, if any, imo.

There's a fair bit of mentality involved in football, granted. Probably more so for goalkeepers than any other position. Still, it isn't humanly possibly for Ramsdale to catch up over a summer. He's miles behind, and Raya is simply the superior keeper. Just stepping up isn't really a thing. Not when the gap is many steps.

How long have you been following football, football is completely random so you can't rule out any permutations whatsoever.

Also the only difference between Ramsdale and Raya is kicking, Ramsdale was actually really good last season and had a better season than Raya, I'm not sure where you're getting the fact that he's miles behind, he is though a better fit for Arteta.

No he isn’t. Ramsdale is superior to Raya.
