Think Newcastle are a good example of how hard it is to keep on building when you get higher up the league. They've blatantly got spending power and have been pretty consistent in their league position for 3 or so years but fundamentally why the fuck would you go to a team that's building when you can instantly go to a team that's challenging for titles.
They've got a good squad but there's not a signing in there that was particularly a marquee that other big clubs where looking at/needed at the time, Woolwich didn't fancy Isak, bought Everton's best player and Lyons best player, winger from relegated Leicester, Tonali from a Milan that needed the funds. They've made most of the players they bought better but still can't attract anyone that has the opportunity to go to any of the 'big 5'. Feel like we've been floating in the same position since Poch.
Plus outside of the UK, who's heard of them? One trophy in 70 years, and a couple of appearances in the Champions League. They also suffer from location. Nowhere near an international airport of not or a big city like Manchester or London. Plus it’s a goldfish bowl of course…
They’re not being tapped up on behalf of those clubs, it’s because those clubs were actually in for them. At the end of the day, if the reliable sources are reporting it, there’s truth to it. It’s not some grand conspiracy.I kinda feel sorry for Newcastle on this Isak thing, it's another example of the media tapping up/unsettling players for the benefit of certain clubs, we know it well with Kane, before that Bale and even before that Berbatov.
IMO the media, especially the BBC and Sky putting out "stories" like this without even direct quotes from the player in question is something that really needs to be investigated and regulated against.
For example, the BBC's headline right now is "Isak wants to explore move away from Newcastle" with absolutely no recent quotes regarding that from Newcastle or Isak himself.

Pretty sure they're fairly well known in France due to their buying 10 years ago. But rhe point standsPlus outside of the UK, who's heard of them? One trophy in 70 years, and a couple of appearances in the Champions League.
Yet they act like they're a much bigger club than us (although to be fair so do most of the UK media too).
It’s because they are the only show in town up there and it’s like an echo chamber, they genuinely believe they are a massive club.Plus outside of the UK, who's heard of them? One trophy in 70 years, and a couple of appearances in the Champions League.

Another club who seem to think they are bigger than Spurs, on the basis of no evidence whatsoever. In reality they are on a par with West Ham in modern football times - maybe slightly ahead as they have played Champions league, although the Spammers won the European papa johns trophy
It's shit, I'm getting myself mentally prepared for a top four of Liverpool, Chelsea, City and Woolwich for the foreseeable future. They are all hitting the accelerator on money spent and leaving everyone else behind.I kinda feel sorry for Newcastle on this Isak thing, it's another example of the media tapping up/unsettling players for the benefit of certain clubs, we know it well with Kane, before that Bale and even before that Berbatov.

Newcastle been proper humbled this Summer, Huijsen, Delap, Mbeumo, Pedro and Eketike all turned them down and Isak now wants to leave.
