Player Pape Sarr

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He can play the Palhinha role. Except we have Palhinha for that role. And Bentancur. And Gray is supposed to be the heir apparent in the CDM role too.

Well built squad.
I can't see it myself, he's no DM.

He has no particular outstanding attribute beyond his athleticism. He's a box to box midfielder and only that, he'd be fine in a midfield 3 where one of the other guys does the defensive side, and the other provides the creativity, leaving him to just run around a lot and contribute little bits to the defensive side and little bits to the attacking side.

Without that around him his limitations are glaring. He's not particularly bad at anything either, and so he's not a liability in any sense, he's a very decent player to have in the squad but cannot shoulder the burden of being the defensive shield or the creative spark.

He's exactly the type of neat and tidy cm that our academy seems to have churned out for years that excel at nothing in particular, just with added athleticism that we seem allergic to cultivating.

Think his days are numbered tbh.

Gray and Bergvall are the midfield prospects to persevere with. If we could get a decent fee for Sarr and put it towards a pass master I'd be keen.

Some decisions will need to be made and I think he is the one to miss out long-term.

Why would we not want him on the squad?

He's limited in some ways but he's typically solid and covers ground more than any other player in our midfield.

You need at least 5 midfielders in the squad and Gray and Bergvall are just 2.

If we can get something like 40M for him, sure you consider it. Bergvall is obviously more talented, but Gray is a similar player but with less experience. Sarr is the better player currently, so I'm not keen to move him on.

He is no destroyer like Palhinha but I think he is a 6/8 hybrid. He is no attacking MF that is for sure.

All notable performances over the years here have been as that shield to the backline, specifically FBs, where he stops attacks using his long strides.

With Ange early on, he was consistently putting in great performances covering both FBs.

It's about balance.

Typically in a 3 man midfield we need a 6,8 and 10.

6: NEW, Palhinha
8: Bergvall, Gray
10: Maddison, Xavi

So we need to prioritise buying a top passing 6. Get rid of Bentancur eventually. Maybe sign up Palhinha on the cheap as a rotation option.

Yes maybe there is room for another 8 to hang around but minutes will be hard to come by. Would be more prudent to give a younger, cheaper prospect this role and cash in on Sarr.

Also depends on Gray's development and whether he is seen as a 6 or 8.

The curious case of Papa Sarr... on paper, he has the skill set to be just as effective as Caicedo. High energy, excels at winning possession, can make surging runs forward to support attacks. Great stamina levels and can cover a lot of ground quickly. He could improve his technique but what is really lacking is his football intelligence... the competency and confidence to apply those skills every game. I am not picking on him. Nearly all our players seem to suffer with this.

He’ll never be as good as Caicedo. He doesn’t excell at winning possession. He fouls a lot. We are so caught up on legs to get about the pitch and energy but when we have the ball we can do fuck all with it. Bergvall is our only midfielder who might offer something on the ball. The rest are ok players but we need so much more. Sarr is not as good as Bentancur on the ball, not as good at tackling and being aggressive in winning the ball back as Paulinha, not as clever or as composed as Bergvall and probably on a par with what Gray offers but Gray has youth on his side to really improve in the next couple of years. Sarr isn’t going to improve drastically now.

I think Paulinha and/ OR Bentancur are nearest the exit door this summer... Especially now we have Gallagher...

I think if we're looking at 2 players per CM position, it's likely that Gray, Bergwall, Gallagher and ONE out of Bentancur, Sarr or Paulinha are used... My hunch is Bentancur and Paulinha will be the first to make way, (unless we decide we need THREE players for each Position, in which case I'd go with:
6. Gray / Sarr / (Paulinha)
8.Gallagher / Bergwall (Bentancur)
10. Xavi / Maddison / Kulu??
Senegal through to the AFCON final.
Pape an unused sub again.
Well that's all been a waste of everyone's time and midfield then... He hasn't played a single minute has he?
Guaranteed to get on in the last minute of the final and receive a career ending tackle!

I think Palhinha will do enough for us to get him on a permanent.
Then we hopefully add another passing 6 to build the midfield around.

That then leaves Gallagher, Bentancur, Gray, Bergvall and Sarr as 8s (Biss is gone). We don't need 5 players for 1 role, especially with no Europe.

I think 2 from that group will move on and it won't be Gallagher or Bergvall.

Could see Gray loaned out and either Sarr or Bentancur sold. But with the injury and Bentancur's new deal I'm not sure. Most managers trust him a lot too.

He's had 81 minutes across 6 games. Well, only featured in their 3rd group game, which was a dead rubber.

The coach prefers 158yo Gueye from Everton, another Pape (Gueye from Villarreal), Camara from shitty Monaco and Diarra from Sunderland. Sarr is clearly their 5th option at CM. Heck, even 31yo CM Pathe Ciss from mighty Rayo Vallecano came on today vs Egypt while our starboy watched on.

And Senegal are in the final, so the coach evidently got his selections & subs right.

He's gonna be the next Viera you just wait

Lads, we've identified Richard Arlison Richard Arlison 's multi.

:king:

Pape is a tough decision with Gallagher coming in tbh.

He has the talent physically and is better than he gets credit for technically. Plays well in big games.

But, struggles to impact long stretches of games. He's a fits and spurts type of guy and he's also not always aggressive/assertive enough.

Frank had him in form and he looked perfect for his transition style, then he dropped him and he picked up a knock. Something like that always seems to happen.

Also Bentancur’s layoff is likely to see him play a very limited role during the remainder of the season. Will we be able to garner any interest should he only return for a few matches?
