Ex-Spurs Player Paul Gascoigne

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

People who didn’t see him live just don’t get that. He was phenomenal. I was lucky to get to go as a kid during that time quite a lot. If he played today he’d be easily the best player in the league. He’d be at City on £400k a week smashing them in showing KDB etc how to do it.

Although he probably wouldn’t have got through the system without a lot of luck.

Best player of his generation

I’ve been very fortunate to have seen him, Greavsie, Mackay, Ginola, Ossie, Klinsmann live

And Nicola Berti of course!

Such a bitter sweet day: winning a proper trophy, but the end of an era; Gazza lit up the lane in a way I haven’t seen anyone do in quite the same way since.

EDIT - maybe peak Bale 🤔
Gazza for me was the player that got you off your feet all the time. His change of direction and ability to run by midfield players as if they weren’t there was incredible. Hoddle was my hero growing up as a kid but Gazza had that whole package of class, fun, carnage and unpredictability that meant you could never take your eyes off him. Utterly flawed human being though.

To me Gazza was the most creative player England has ever produced.

The fukker pulled a Rabona in a pen! He out paced Vinnie Jones after the ball grab!

Also is a fukkin MADLAD.

To me if anyone says a bad word about my English GOAT I will defend him till the end of time - even when he was involved with Rauol Moat fukkin GOAT.

Brilliantly well put. It’s difficult to explain to those who weren’t there, but there was a genuine buzz before every match, wondering what Gazza would do today.

Was there ; he did a few things.

I’d say , on the eye-test ( and over many , many more games) Glenn was well beyond Diego ( on English pitches at least ) .

PS We’re allowed to disagree .

PPS I get what you were saying.
It's a damn shame this kind of thing will never happen again - imagine if Messi for the lols wore a Brit Kit for an event/friendly game for ANY London club just because it's fun???

The bullshit around the beautiful game pisses me off.

The thing was , as we all know, that our club mattered on the global stage back then ( in a way it doesn’t so much any more ) .

Diego actually made an effort to come to our part of the world to play in a friendly on behalf of his mate but also ( and he said as much in an interview) because of the club . He played for nothing.

As you say , imagine that happening now .

Different times …

And that’s why nobody can ever tell me today’s game is better. There’s many more reasons but that is something that I miss about the game from rhe 80s.
There’s no artists with freedom anymore . It’s more drilled set roles & very chess like. Plus any off the cuff dribbling or magic is coached out of them. It’s a Lot more boring these days.

I think he knew Ardiles and Villa played for us and Ossie sort of took him under his wing a bit at national level. So he was very close to him. Maradona was known for being very loyal to those he valued and Ossie was certainly one of those.

I’m not inclined to believe he cared much about Spurs outside of those 2.
