Ex-Spurs Player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yep he will have good games against poor sides. He is fine for an utterly clueless Leeds. But trust me in this he will not be part of a Conte eleven other than squad option. He works hard but like Winks we will never see top four again with him starting games. It gives me zero pleasure to say it but I already suspect Conte's aware of his limitations.

If we are seriously competing next year ( not playing José's XG bandits) with him starting I'll be on here apologising but I doubt it. This fan base are like goal fish with players

We will be seriously competing next year with him starting and you will still be moaning.
Why do you always have to insult those who disagree with you?
Please put me on ignore as I offend you. I don't enjoy your contributions so it seems neither of us will lose any sleep. I don't like Sudoku either funnily enough. Oh an for the record only I did not insult people who do not agree with me. Have a happy life.

You don't offend me. You insult others needlessly.
I am asking you to change your ways.
Put me on ignore. That you have no sense of humour is one of the reasons I don't like conversing with you. You seem to find goldfish deeply objectionable. I don't hence I don't see the analogy as offensive. I have no intention of changing for a poster I try not to converse with. Tell you what I'll stick you on ignore.

Absolutely bang on

He’s good against bottom half teams and simply can’t get close to top half teams - Brighton, Soton etc have him all over the place, let alone Chelsea etc

It's a shame you can't just give your opinion without jibes at others who don't agree.

He was excellent today

Not a chance in hell he starts games for us next year if Conte is here
It's as simple as this. But you have to go through this cycle as with gold fish and their proportion short memories. Winks good game against the odd opponent fanbase screech "SEE HE'S GOOD!" happen with Dele and Ndombele this very season. He will be phased out its plain as day and we will be better for it.

BS. Lots of coaches like a player like PEH. Vidal started 14. games last year for Inter. Gagliardini started 14. Ashley Young started 16. He’s not world class by any means. But he is a useful player who does what the coach asks and will give his all. A guy that many winning sides would have on their team. Liverpool did the same thing with Henderson forever until they finally appreciated him.

Vidal, Gagliardini and Henderson are all much better than PEH, not comparable at all.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ran the show for Tottenham Hotspur as they thrashed Leeds United in the Premier League on a day where Harry Kane and Heung-min Son became record-breakers.

Spurs responded to their midweek disappointment at Burnley with a convincing 4-0 victory over the division’s most leaky defence.

Three quickfire goals from Matt Doherty, Dejan Kulusevski and Kane put the game out of reach for the Yorkshiremen before Son capped off the fine display when he latched onto the perfect pass from the England international to slot past the home goalkeeper five minutes from time.

That late moment meant the Lilywhites duo became the deadliest duo in Premier League history by breaking the all-time record for goal combinations.

However, for all of their dominance in the final third, it was the provider for Kane’s effort who arguably controlled things at Elland Road.

As he led the starting XI for touches (76), Hojbjerg once again proved his immense worth to manager Antonio Conte, not only doing his usual defensive duties to a great effect but also evidently delivering in the opposition third.

Indeed, with that possession, the Denmark international provided 57 accurate passes from 64 attempts (89%), in which one was the key pass and chance created for Kane’s composed finish on the 27th-minute mark. He also managed a 100% dribble success rate.

Elsewhere, the 26-year-old registered three tackles, which was the most of any Spurs player on the day, as well as three clearances and one block, as per SofaScore.

It’s no wonder Hojbjerg has previously been lauded as a “monster” by former Denmark and Derby County star Morten Bisgaard and a ‘captain without the armband’ by his old boss Jose Mourinho.

Spurs are a much better outfit with the former Saints skipper in the starting lineup and performances like that one in west Yorkshire should stop the constant question marks over his influence in the engine room from some in the stands.

‘Used the ball well when Spurs broke and worked hard in front of the back three,’ wrote football.london reporter Alasdair Gold in his post-match ratings column, where Hojbjerg was graded an 8/10.

The £36m-rated powerhouse also won seven duels and recovered the ball eight times, via Fotmob.

It was an all-round and dominant performance from Hojbjerg, one worthy of the sort of acclaim that both Son and Kane will receive as the two key attacking cogs of Conte’s side.

Hojbjerg arguably ran the proceedings at Elland Road.
Lovely to finally see some praise for the guy. The amount of hate he's being getting of late has been very unfair.

Sure, he can have have a bad game from time to time like anyone can, but generally he's a solid performer. His mentality is exactly what we need at this club.

He’s capable of good performances, I’m not stupid. Against bottom half sides he’s alright and does a good job. That’s c. 50% of our matches so a good squad player

However, if you think that makes him untouchable and beyond criticism then I feel for you. He’s completely ineffective against good sides, that’s the crux of it. Doesn’t mean he’s dead, doesn’t mean he should be sold but it does mean we need other solutions vs top half teams

I actually think both him and Conte would benefit from resounding boo’s when he fails to trust himself and goes back to Lloris. Doesn’t make us bad supporters. Does mean we have an opinion (you don’t seem to).
