Ex-Spurs Player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

PEH had a stinker tonight; his first touch was terrible, kept losing the ball, bottled tackles, and kept doing that bloody pointing thing Sissoko did. He needs a bit of time out, and maybe he'll get his act together after some rest.

He played more last season than at any other point in his career, over 4,000 minutes.

Then he went to the Euros and played every single minute. He is physically fucked and hasn't had a break in 2 years.

A brilliant player who has ran out of steam and needs to be rested.

If that is the case why was he so mediocre overall and terrible with the ball and under pressure last season?

Surely he wasn't tired before playing those minutes.

Are the dim still drinking this frauds Kool-Aid. He IS A BIG PART OF OUR PROBLEMS. Think about it lads even when Jose had us top and we has Hojbjerg play every min we...had epicly low ball retention possession stats. Nice bloke but we are seriously limiting ourselves with this player in our midfield. Southampton got the way better part of the deal.

He played like shite tonight. Let’s move on to next game and see how he play’s along side Bentancur vs Wolves

It's hardly like it's the first time he's been poor. Our central midfielders aren't good enough to play in a two. Maybe Skipp and Bentancur can be, though we're then really relying on our full-backs for creativity and they aren't good enough consistently enough either. The same as why we play with three centre-backs and not two. Whether it was Romero and Dier, Romero and Sanchez, Romero and Davies or Romero and Rodon, none of those combinations are good enough for any top club.

The lack of quality in our side other than at the top end of the pitch is alarming.

No surprise we got bossed in midfield. Hojbjerg wasn’t getting a kick at Southampton at the time we got him. There’s not a lot of teams in the Prem who would be happy with him and Winks starting for them. Certainly no other team in the top 10.

Nailed it.

He is a problem like Winks, in the sense none of them should be in the first XI. But both are a sympthom of the much bigger problem. Which is the Spurs "transfer strategy".

He was dropped cos he publicly expressed his desire to leave and refused a new deal.

He was captain until then.
And they became a much better team for it. Certainly not a player that's missed by any of their fans. Look at the way Romeu and Ward Prowse were able to mop up second balls and recycle possession last night, Hojbjerg simply hasn't got those traits in the locker.

If it was as black and white as that, can you explain why we murdered them at home last season and the 2 x 9-0 losses they incurred. Or the fact that they went from finishing 11th in 19/20 to finishing 15th in 20/21? (JWP & Romu were also on the books for both seasons)

....Perhaps them doing better this year is something to do with other players improving them?

Even now they're only sat 10th with more games played than everyone else around them.

I’m not claiming that Romeu and Ward Prowse are World beaters, but they are both better than Hojbjerg. The fact that we got dominated by a midfield sitting in 10th place says it all.

You may notice I'm only contradiction the dubious and/or un-factual parts of your posts.....

I didn't suggest that you think S"oton's MFers are world beaters and no I'm not suggesting that last night was good enough from us.

Sticking with the facts is a more convincing pitch though.....The fact is that PEH mostly kept Romeu out of their side and was their captain. S'oton fans adopting the "good riddance" line means little. It's what fans most do.

The only reason that his thread is so alive is because it is so unusual for Hog to have a bad game.
He was an excellent buy for THFC and will have a major role for the rest of the season.

With Skipp out because of injury, right now he's best we have. I rate him more than Winks in a double pivot. No denning Hojbjerg had a bad game and has had a few bad games in a row but right we have no choice.

I don't think Conte can play a 3-5-2 because our WB are not good enough offensively, we need our wingers to create scoring chances.
