Ex-Spurs Player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

At times I liked him a lot but he was a very limited player. He simply didn’t suit our style of play anymore and I think we got a good price for him. I’ve been quite impressed with our outgoings so far, we are showing a willingness to clear out the dead wood.

If there is one player that sums up the clubs transfer policy under Hitchin around that 2020 period and who epitomises the Mourinho, Nuno, Conte 3 years then its Hojbjerg. Not his fault of course and was playing with a lot of crap around that time but really does personify Mourinho as he's a bit of a joyless player. A bit of effort but a lack of technical ability.

He did look much improved when playing next to Bentancur for a lot of 2022 which probably says a lot. At least he was fit and available for most of the time and cracked on with things last season despite not starting so fair play but really happy to move on from that dreadful period.

He often had to play in that position in front of the centre backs that never suited his game. He needs a more dynamic free role. He never really complained, great team man.

Agree. But don't understand why our sale prices are always so low. Understand he left with one year of his contract, but Citeh or chelscum would possibly have gotten it over €20mil or £18mil kind of price.

My feelings on PEH is that he was the player who embodied our 2020-23 era more than any other.

Talked a good game about mentality/winning, got a pass from several because of this and so-called solidity/experience, who thought this would make us win something.

However he was lacking in the no1 thing that matters most; CONSISTENT QUALITY, and it’s why we ultimately went backwards.

It was obvious he was nowhere near the likes of the Poch era midfielders quality wise and the likes of Sarr, Bergvall, Gray and possibly Hall will hammer the point home.

For the love of god, “prem proven” and “experience” are nonsense factors in judging whether we should acquire a player’s services. Either they have the quality or they don’t.

Because they have recent overall record of success so their players are naturally rated higher.

Hojbjerg comparables in recent times are the likes of Kovacic & Jorginho; he’s got nowhere near their clout/resume.

It is what it is - he was deadwood to me and I don’t haggle over the price of deadwood.

Good luck to him in Marseille - passionate fanbase, naturally the biggest in France and maybe they can challenge PSG this season.

He’s a good #8 for a mid table counterattacking side. So no good for Ange-ball.

Screwed us by refusing to go to Fulham last summer for 25m quid. Not at all sad to see him go - Pleased he didn’t run down his contract and leave on a free next summer.

And Gallagher is a better player?

Modern day Graham roberts..
What annoys me so much in the mythology that surrounds players like Roberts and Roy Keane, is that people forget that first and foremost they were very talented footballers. There’s no way Roberts could have survived in a team with Hoddle & Ardiles if he never had talent that complemented theirs.

It’s what separates them from the Vinnie Jones and the Lee Cattermoles.

Was never going to be a Busquets type player who could receive the ball under pressure, but if all he’s asked to do is get the ball back and punt it up the park, he’s a very decent player.

Best of luck to him.

Good clearout happening this summer. Never really rated Hojbjerg and felt he got an undeserved reputation as a “reliable” or “hard” player despite being one of the biggest cowards in the squad. A lot like Dier he hid in big games and focused more on pointing and shouting at his teammates than wanting to take responsibility and do something with the ball. Glad Ange is getting this poor mentality out of the squad.

I think coward is harsh. Granted, there were times he could be accused of hiding when we were trying to play out from the back, but if you are asked to do something you are quite obviously unable to do, isn’t that a natural reaction?

He’s like Dier in this respect. Ask him to do what he is capable of and he’ll not let you down. Ask him to do something he obviously can’t and you’ll end up disappointed.
