Ex-Spurs Player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Losing our on pitch leader. Who's going to step up and be the boss on the pitch? We've got a lot of kids out there who need some experience to get them organized.

Son, Romero always seem pretty quiet. In fact, most of our squad seems to be pretty introverted.
PEH averaged 33 minutes a game last season. Tough to be pitch leader of you're not on the pitch.

Romero is the leader for me. Already happening.
I've a feeling Archie Gray might step into that role (if given the minutes!)

Age has nothing to do with leadership necessarily...
Personality does!

We look at both Lloris and Sonny as recent Captains... Both were less than vocal, and I feel only had the armbands due to age and experience...
But neither really seemed the kind to give someone a kick up the backside...

Now Romero IS Captain material for me... Crazy Pirate Ship Captain, maybe, but I think he at least has the balls to bollock other senior players if they're not pulling their weight. Lloris and Son might just ask nicely!!

IMHO, We've always need a Roy Keane... a Vieira type midfielder... But ours are usually eityer too busy being silky... or were Winksy and Skippy! Neither captain material!!

Maybe just maybe, Archie Gray can fulfil THAT role one day too...
(as well as CM and RB!)

Agree on Romero; but it seems inevitable that he will be off to Barca as soon as he can

He was. And that's saying something considering how average he was.
Fucking Jesus, can we not reminisce over some of the absolute cloggers that we've fielded in the key area of the pitch over recent years?

So annoying the slew of managers we've had that valued graft over craft... It's one thing to not have any time for flair players who are too lazy to put in the hard work, but that means you need to find players with a mix of both, hard workers with no talent are just as bad as the inverse option.

Sissoko did two things of note played a blinder against us for Newcastle made him look a world beater and feckin wasnt and he punted the ball back in the semi-final v Ajax that lead to the winning goal that’s it , he was lazy fecker and did nothing to justify 30million quid , Hojbjerg on the other hand was a grafter no dynamic by any stretch of the imagination but a guy you’d be happy to be in the trenches with……if we were 2-0 on Tuesday night away to Stoke in the middle February I know who’d I rely on …..

Sissoko was anything but lazy, never stopped running and rarely injured. Just technically dreadful.

Rank these 5 midfielders with 1 being the best.

Freund, Sissoko, Hojbjerg, Clemence, O'Hara.

1 Sissoko (never lived up to Dembele or Wanyama, but better than people think)
2 Hojberg (better than cult)
3 Freund (Cult, BECAUSE he was bad, but a trier... Everyone loves a trier!)
4 Clemence (100% Nepotism)
5 O'Hara (Fat bloated fuck)

Agree... We've had some fucking cloggers in there over the years, but that's not Spurs... so we have to sweep it under the carpet!
We've had some proper shit show midfielders...

For every Hoddle, Modric, Van Der Vaart, Dembele and Dele... There's a Saib, Dozzell, Freund, and K.P.Boateng to compliment them!

Marseille basing their scouting on that one game in the CL, I see.
He joins Andy Sinton, and Ruel Fox in the hall of fame then of:
One good game against US, and we sign him!

That shoulda been a RED FLAG not to sign them!

actually won a player of the year award at the club lol. he was respected.

Yes. Hard worker, an absolute unit, broke up opposition play, almost always available, good professional attitude, popular in the dressing room... first touch like a snowplough, all passes delivered at 100mph, finishing worse than the Trump assassin.

And an excellent Euro's.
He's a better player than we've seen IMO. We always use him as a midfield disrupter, but I think he has more of a box to box mentality. Getting stuck in deep, but then popping up at the other end with goals and assists.
I feel like he's told no to cross the halfway line for us too often.

lot of value in a player there. yes he wasnt great technically, but he was still a decent player because of the qualities you mentioned. lets not forget he also played for france, who would have had much better players technically.

“What do you do during 87 minutes when you do not have the ball? That is what determines whether you’re a good player or not” – Johan Cruyff

obviously the very best are going to be good on the ball and good off the ball, but how many sides have had that? unless youre city from cuple years ago or barca over 10 years ago chances are youre going to have a sissoko or two in your side for balance.
