I haven't actually followed the news/allegations/reports/gossip in depth. But just a reminder of how the law works in the UK...

Innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

And I say that from a background of having joined in the "Tottenham boys on a bender" chant in the stadium when the allegations surfaced a couple of years back. I think it's fair for opposing fans to use any legal methods to try to get under the skin of the oppo. Although I'm not entirely sure that the chant is strictly legal at the moment.

I stand uneasy on the dishing out actual punitive measures before guilt is actually proven. It's a precarious situation, as Man City have found out with the Benjamin Mendy case. In the circumstance I guess sucking up his wage while suspending him from playing duties might be considered the safest route through?

Where do you stand in terms of an employer’s obligation to safeguard staff in the event one of its employees is under investigation for a crime as serious as rape? True, innocent until proven guilty, so the suspect should not be sacked. But certainly they should be put on gardening leave to ensure the safety of female employees, of that there is no doubt. And that’s not what has happened here.

Tough one, no right answer.

False accusations could also mean that an employee is unfairly suspended and the employer put at a disadvantage.

I guess it depends on the context?

I did posit that suspending him from playing duties whilst still paying him might be an option. It has the potential to be a very difficult situtaion to navigate.

Multiple allegations of rape I would add, from 3 different women as far as I can ascertain.

When it comes to safeguarding, there is no might. Employers must protect their staff first and foremost. Just as an example, Ian Huntley was never convicted of a crime when he was employed by the school where he carried out the most heinous of crimes. We as a society have moved on from that to ensure history never repeats itself. Well, all but a South London football club who now purports to be North London “forever”.

I hope they can name him soon so that Arteta and Woolwich get shamed. This has dragged on far too long!

Woolwich spent the last 2 seasons complaining about City cheating and demanding them to be charged. Well the irony if City get cleared and it turns out Woolwich were knowingly playing a rapist every week during those 2 seasons

Wasn't there recordings and screenshots with this one too?

The fact I dunno if it was against this footballer or another is a sad reflection.
yeah i seen snapchat screenshot doing the rounds for the first one. Haven't seen anything related to the other 2 assaults though.

It is all alleged tbf so we are all in the dark but if its true and all this happened then its absolutely scandalous how he was allowed play on bail week in week out for a top team while his 3 victims are silenced

He should have been suspended on full pay until the allegations had been dealt with, but his club felt football clubs are different from other employers and winning games is more important than HR responsibilities

Correct. Maybe it was a fake screenshot but there is no reason to assume that. It was posted on Twitter by one of the accusers. But if i remember correctly her case was dismissed for technical reasons.
The offences that took place in Spain could not be prosecuted because of the laws at the time. Under the laws as they are now they would be. Shame.

However there were other alleged offences that took place in the U.K. that were still being investigated.
