Of course it does if a player refuses to play their career will go down the toilet if they do that for a full season or two. There is nothing about Gray that suggests he would risk that. Contract protects the player but it also protect the club. A contract unless it has a release clause is binding. His way out would be for someone to overpay to make it worth our while.
Your so far off here. We will need to agree to disagree. The contract stops him plying his trade elsewhere without compensation being paid to his parent club. He puts in a transfer request and he's gone. We cannot keep a player against his will but I doubt it will get to that. Once he signals his intent to leave he will be allowed to leave. Then his agent has to find a club to pay the asking fee and it's not going to be anywhere near as high as you seem to think. Sorry if it upsets you but that is the reality of relegation.

As Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive rightly said yesterday, ENIC didn't do enough in the PL, they won't do enough in the Champo...20-30% of the required effort is what they do, that's their MO.

I think we will have to agree to disagree. Club isn’t a charity, Gray isn’t going unless we get an insane offer and I’d bet on that.

Harry Kane handed in a transfer request and briefly went on strike ... we didn't sell him until his contract was at the point where it made sense for the club.

Luka Modric handed in a transfer request ... we sold him when it made sense for the club.

Players who I think are going to leave (either sold, end of contract or loan):

Vicario, Dragusin, Palhinha, Simons, Bissouma, Richarlison, Udogie, Romero, Kudus, Porro, Spence, Sarr, Davies, Vuskovic, Muani, VDV, Dorrington, Scarlett

That would leave us with:

GK: Kinsky, Austin, Gunter

Defenders: Danso, Phillips, Souza, Takai, Byfield, Rowswell

Midfielders: Maddison, Bentancur, Gray, Bergvall, Gallagher, Donley, Devine, Olusesi, (RA-RD)

Forwards/Wingers: Kulusevski, Solanke, Moore, Tel, Lankshear, Melia, Odobert (LWB)

Need a GK, FBs/WBs on both sides, at least a Defender, a Winger, goal scoring midfielder, a striker. Getting someone instead of Solanke would be great. Bentancur I would keep and would probably stay - have a feeling he would thrive in the championship.

That’s about 60% of the wage bill and probably £200-300m of outgoings. Should easily cover any loses.

Six months ago Bentancur was starting for Uruguay in their World Cup qualifiers ... he would absolutely boss the Championship.

We had no need to sell. We weren't a basket case relegated to the Championship. Both those players leave if we were relegated.

The must keep is Gray.

Maddison would also be a must keep. I’d also keep Odobert and Danso, possibly Kinsky, Tel & Souza too

Let Vuskovic stay at Hamburg another year with a new contract.

The silver lining is that we have a lot of young players who are chomping at the bit to represent us with pride.

The pathway would instantly open for Byfield, Leo Black, Olusesi, Tyrese Hall, Luca WB, Moore, Donley, Devine, Lankshear etc etc.

See what Eric Dier is up too - He and Maddison would be the leaders.

Everyone else, Just sell to the highest bidder .

What we need next season in the championship is something we have been totalling lacking this season: desire.
It is a tough league, and will be a long old slog. Not guaranteed in the slightest that we will go straight back up.
If we have the same lack of bollocks we have shown this year we won't even make the playoffs

Oh no how will we cope

Our squad will be underwhelming, short on talent and especially bollocks...but cheap. We'll lose a good 10-15 games and struggle to make the playoffs.

We will be fine. Our non football stadium events generated more revenue than the total revenue of 19 championship clubs last season. All I'm saying is the majority of our squad won't be here next season if we are relegated. You choose to believe what you want.
Not arguing with the idea that a lot will leave. They should, and most of them won’t be missed frankly.
I just disagree that the players on long contracts will have the final say … unless the current management just bend over, which is quite possible I guess.

We just see it differently which is cool. I hope you're right and the likes of Madders and Deki look at themselves and say, yeah we owe the club at least one more season on reduced wages. I hope Gray and our other young promising players accept they we're partly responsible for relegation and will do their bit to ensure we get back to the PL at the first time of asking. I hope a few experienced players like Bentancur and Solanke find it in their heart to take a wage cut and give us 100% effort in the Championship.

Pace is king in the championship. it’s the biggest weapon to have. Technical players have said they found the championship harder than the premier league. Need to bring in some flyers in the final third. Coventry, Leeds have done that the last few years

Gray, Moore, Bergvall will play a big part but you can’t just fill the side with all our youth players and hope. don’t buy over the hill players disguised as experience either. Don’t think that’s the right way to go. needs some good scouting now.
