If we can maintain our form and go on to win the league while compete well in the Europa, it will be interesting to see people rationalising how it's so detrimental to league form and it's a one or the other type of deal. Especially considering Woolwich will soon be out of the CL and Leicester only have the league to worry about.

You really have to look at those statements with context
Poch's statement was made when at Southampton, that had zero depth outside it's first 11. You could also argue that his first 11 lacked 3 or 4 players, hence they were looking for their greatest season ever at finishing 8th. This was regarded by many as an over-acheivement, so yeah in the context of Southampton competing in EL he was spot-on. And, proved to be spot-on as they were utterly shit when trying to compete in it.

Pardew, Pardew!.....................Fuck right off, not even worth the ink to think the mighty football managerial genius of Pardew talking with any authority on the subject.

Martinez, his comments were taken with his team just above the relegation zone, he blamed the competition for his inefficiencies as a manger, what a cunt. So, as they sit mid-table without EL what are his excuses now, especially as after every game he is quick to tell the media that everyone in his team is World Class.

Redknapp, I actually agree with his comment with distant places etc. BUT that refers to the league stages. We are now into the knockout stages, those shitpot teams are out of the competition.

In case you hadn't noticed, our Football Club has moved on, it is far, far better than the teams mentioned above, we have proved that we can play in EL and hold down a constant league position and unlike those teams above not be mid-table or relegation whilst competing in it.

The biggest challenge of this competition is Thurs/Sun games. It is important to understand it is not the same as CL. The Scum have been in the CL for 14yrs, they have played TWICE in that time with a 48hr break between a CL game and League game, TWICE!!! The truth is the CL team invariably play Tues/Sat or Wed/Sun and it is why I say it is easier than EL group stages. This works in their favour when/if we have to play one of the teams in CL, in order to get CL it is said you have to beat those above you (for us teams in top 4), games are won by small margins/percentages and for us to stand a chances to beat those teams you need an equal footing to stand a chance. I know we would have beaten Chelsea in the Cup final had we not played in Florence 48hrs before, or if Chelsea had also played 48hrs before.

Granted all "if's" & "buts", main point I am trying to make is having an equal opportunity. It is hard enough to beat an establish top 4 side when on equal footing, but giving them even the smallest of advantages massively favours them. I think we will compete strongly in the CL, we will have the extra day and this will help us holding that position should we qualify next year. Combine that with Manure, Bin Dippers, Chavs likely to be in EL that small margin should finally work in our favour.
 
Amuses me that many discredit the Europa League about how it takes it toil on players Thurs-Sun. However because Champions League is played Tues/Weds-Sat first team squads are happy. It's effectively the same time difference. Just different days.

Playing regular Europa League sets teams up to get used to the vigour's of travel and playing European competition. I remember the days when it was our goal to play in the Uefa/Europa, we'd even be looking at qualification through the fair play league. Are we now too big a club to turn our noses up at European glory? We have a good history of playing and winning, the CWC and UEFA Cup. We still have more European trophy wins than the Woolwich.

I would love us to win the Europa League, we are a seasoned team in the competition. Don't see the likes of Porto, Atleti, Sevilla complaining when they win that trophy. The joy on the fans faces when they pick it up. Would rather that than a 2nd, 3rd ,4th place finish. Look at Liverpool the season they finished 2nd, did they even have EL? Then they had CL the following season where they bombed due to not having the rigurs of midweek games previously.

IF we qualify for Champions league we should all be happy we have been in the Europa. It helps with our ranking in ALL European matches and we should be seeded if in a qualifier situation and in pot 2 or 3 in a group situation.

Where Spurs go wrong is sending the first team players to the arse end of nowhere in the group stage. I have never understood that logic. There is no need, as win 3 home games you will get through anyway, and top the group if you win away at the Pony team in the group !

If Thursday / Sunday is bad, which it might be, over the last decade we have done bloody well overall to minimize the impact. So credit where credit is due.

It's not though. Tuesday-Saturday is one day extra rest. Weds-Sat OK fair enough, but how many times are sky 4 teams on TV on a Sunday? Often. So it is rarely the same.

Good point about them lot being in the EL. Interesting to see how they will manage it. Only thing is, in some ways it will be harder playing in CL and balancing it with the league, due to harder opposition and not being able to really rest players. I think we will have to have even more of a squad rotation system. E.g. with our wing-backs they are all pretty much equal in terms of how good they are. We need to try and get something like this going for other areas of the team, if possible.

IMO it simply won't happen. If we get to the semis we won't win the league. I'd love to be wrong, but can't see it.

It will be fascinating to see. IMO the group stages of the EL is harder than group stages CL, my theory is in the EL when we go to outer mongolia, it is their biggest game of the season, they go up a level when playing us, they make their shit pitches even worse.

We have played well against other CL teams e.g. Monaco, Anderlecht. I think it suits us, plus they are not 5k miles away, you know The Lane will be packed (glory hunters out in force) and atmosphere will be great, unlike an EL game.
