Supporters Racists at Spurs

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Can’t agree, sorry.

Nothing to play devils advocate with here. It’s racism.

That's fair enough mate wouldn't have a go at anyone. Like my above post stated perhaps I just came into the post thinking I was gonna see far worse

But as a genuine question when Ange for example is called you fat Aussie wanker by many a fan on this board and routinely by rival fans. Are we saying this is racist?

I'd say it's xenophobic at the least. Australian is a nationality not a race. So is Chinese but the fact they were calling Son Chinese when he's Korean (presuming it's true) suggests a racial element beyond xenofobia

Even though it´s a great sport in many ways football has always had a nasty, toxic element to it. I don´t know if it attracts a certain type of person to some extent or it makes otherwise nice people into idiots but for sure it´s one of the places you´re most likely to hear horrible stuff said whether discriminatory or just general horrid stuff.

At the Bournemouth game, a guy near us said at one point 'fuck off Porro, I hope you fucking die' after some cock up or other. Someone also heard him call Sarr 'a black cunt' when he put a shot wide from the edge of the box - I didn't hear that personally.

Just one guy and not something I hear generally over Spurs but it's a very sad state of affairs and I will have words if I hear it in future.

Football isn't immune from this bullshit. People need to make these cretins feel very uncomfortable.

That's more than a bit sad.
Yes - much more than a bit. That's why Farage, Yaxley-Lennon and their respective crews are so disgusting. They encourage the evil of racism that's lurking just below the surface in some people. Then, like most racists, they hotly deny it. This 'official' sanctioning gives currency to prejudice and makes it so much harder to get rid of.
I've encountered two racists in the time mentioned - one was a drunken Spurs fan and one was a vile antisemitic away supporter. The Spurs fan was dealt with by stewards (removed) and I reported the away fan, who had disappeared from his seat next time I turned around (don't know if he was ejected or if he spirited himself away to another part of the away section because I told him what I'd done, the vile cretin). They were both white males, older than 40. When will these people learn how wrong it is?

Here's my two cents

  • I haven't been to many away games this season but last season & seasons before that I have witnessed Anti Sonny chants that included race-related comments that are what I consider racist - this is why I don't sit near the away fans at the Hotspur Stadium because I distinctly remember a game where chants were happening & the home fans where telling stewards what was going on & I emailed - It was Millwall fans (I'm not a fan of Millwall fans they seem to be a bit fisty cuffy) & I told the cops after we left the stadium with my friends that Millwall fans were getting rowdy.
  • I'm not one to not believe racism doesn't exist, my brother is Black Nigerian so growing up & sometimes someone does rock up tanked on booze that have called me a 'N**** Lover' & in my 20's I've been in a few fights if my little brother gets disrespected.
  • I've been called a Faggot a few times at away games as well which is nice due to the fact I was married to a woman & sometimes been with my GF at the time.
I believe it happened & it's depressing to hear. I was there but I didn't hear it but hey I can't witness everything at a Stadium.

I'm black and i go to the stadium regularly and if i'm being totally honest i've never felt completley comfortable attending. The son stuff has absolutely increased loads this season and i've heard numerous times fans talking about the increase of "foreign fans" when speaking about the Korean fanbase.

Ive heard other things as well but isolsted incidents. I wouldnt be comfortable taking my nearly 5 year old there as i feel i have to be on guard and it's not worth the hassle.
It's why I still haven't taken my six year old. He's not white (I am), and he's desperate to go but I just don't consider it a safe space yet. That includes any ground. The truth is if you have 60,000 people in one place you're going to get some racists, and certainly a lot more than anyone cares to admit

I was there yesterday and didn't hear any abuse of Son or any of our players / manager.......and they probably deserve more heat than they are getting

We also shouldn't ever just 'let it go' over Campbell

No - it's sizeist.

Anyone who is my age (born in the 70s) and not white has grown up with racism.

It’s got a lot better over time but it’s always going to be there. Some generations double down on their beliefs.

Others become more open minded.

Bit generally the human race is pretty good at being a bit shit.

Probably not the best topic to use as a vehicle to encourage additional abuse. Have the players been a bit shit and deserving of criticism? Sure, but not sure that needs to be highlighted in this thread given the subject matter, it's a bit messy

Fair point.

I'm just saying that fans really aren't on the players backs at all, and certainly I haven't heard any being victims of abuse.

I note that no one seems too bothered by the thinly veiled anti-Semitism aimed at Levy and Lewis, anything where they are concerned seems to be fair game.

People have a right to say whatever they want , or that's what they believe , it's the way of the world now .
But when caught out become very contrite .
Everyone is entitled to an opinion , you just don't always have to express them .

Ignore all the below.... written after misreading

No they don't

this is not what free speech is about.

You do not have a right to say whatever you want in a public space, and certainly not in a space owned by a corporation where you have paid money to attend.

Also - everyone is not entitled to their opinion - not all opinions are equal - many opinions are fucking stupid and hold zero fucking weight.

No it’s truthful based on the facts that he’s fat, Australian and a wanker.

Quite an accurate summary of the man to be fair.

Not singing the lynching song because it's too loaded for banter to be aimed at a man of his ancestry. I went Fulham is a weird ground it's got that kind of neutral bit I didn't hear any overtly rascist stuff, but I've heard people call Sarr and Bissouma race based critiques of their game at Spurs. Couple got shouted at, and one got an actual slap caused a bigger cheer than most things that happen on the pitch( that was a good day). West ham fans love songs about Sonny eating dogs. This is England.
