People are going to behave how they behave. Telling them have to behave isn't going to work with some, the more it's highlighted the more some will rebel.
People have the right to believe what they like no matter how idiotic as long as they don't commit crimes doing it

Nah.

People who say the holocaust never happened and that Hitler was a great man…fuck their ‘right to an opinion’

Those kind of people can get in the sea.

Absolutely ; people should be allowed to believe as they like and behave as they like ; as long as it doesn’t cause problems for others . Do unto others etc .

Hence racist chants in a public space are NOT acceptable / legal . And should never be so.

I‘’ve got no problem with anyone believing and doing the most heinous of things : as long as all involved are informed , consenting and willing and it happens in a private space ; or one that others willingly enter into to observe at a safe distance.

That’s why , on a serious / less serious note something like AFTV doesn’t bother me . It’s a self-contained phenomenon . They seem to enjoy it ; leave them to it , is what I say.

Edit ; I’m obviously not excusing racists ; I’m simply saying they exist and in my lifetime will continue to do so , there’s not much I can do about that hard-core : BUT they can’t/shouldn’t promulgate their ideas or opinions in a public space .

no but they can face consequences. Losing their livelihoods for a start. And rightfully so.

Nobody should lose their livelihood over an opinion. That's just authoritarian nonsense

Lose friends, lose relationships with your loved ones because you have cunty opinions but not your job. Unless your job is public facing and your opinion directly threatens your ability to do your job.

Opinions are relatively harmless. Actions are dangerous and have consequences. Social media is a slightly grey area because posting an opinion is technically an action, as is giving a public speech and encouraging others to share your opinion.

But they do have an opinion ( a stupid hateful one) but nobody can take that away from them

It’s their “ opinion “ but it’s so far removed from reality that it it renders them worthy of our concern rather than our respect .

Imagine someone coming up to you in the street and telling you that Oliver Cromwell was still alive and living in a shed at the bottom of his garden .

Would you be ;

a ) worried that a 350 year-old Oliver C. would foment a rebellion against the Crown and a second English Civil War would ensue in due course ?

OR

b ) concerned for the mental wellbeing of the person you just met ?

Let them believe what they want ; and be enlightened enough to disregard anything they pronounce .

They’re rendered harmless that way .

Ridiculous statement.

You don't think a company/company owner should be able to sack someone of they are openly racist, bigoted, sexist, xenophobic, extremist etc?

Those views will make other employees/clients/customers etc - even if it's just the owner of the company - uncomfortable, and no one should have to feel uncomfortable at work.

Just for holding an opinion, no.

If they post that opinion on social media that is a very different thing.

Wrong.

If their opinion, for example, is that all ethnic minorities should be wiped off the face of the earth, then they absolutely should lose their livelihoods.

Thanks for popping in though, Putin.

Don’t bother replying.

Yes no-one should face any consequence for what they internally think , feel or understand to be the truth . It’s his or her thing to live with and contain within themselves .

The moment they’re motivated to project those thoughts and ideas to others OR act in a way that their
views and opinions AFFECT others ; then they’ve crossed a red line as far as I see it .

Feel free to think whatever you want but don’t defecate into a public-well that others ( who may not share your particular gut-bacteria ) also have to drink from .

If that makes sense.
