I agree, but I think we definitely need to plug that gap in the mean time. Ideally we could find someone more experienced that can offer 2-3 seasons, then Gray takes over as first choice somewhere in there and we backfill behind him.
After this season I'd just be happy to put someone with two working hamstrings there and Gray has shown his metal.

I do get you though, still think Bentancur if he can find that pre million injury form can be the guy in the mean time.

What 'overt optimism'? I was merely pointing out that in many ways, a loan with an option to buy is actually much better than a permanent transfer. It's far from optimism - on the contrary, I'm happy that, unlike with a permanent transfer, we'll be able to 'get out of it', i.e. send him back, if it doesn't work out. How on earth is that 'overt optimism'? Surely it's assuming the worst? :/
so you agree this is just a bandaid then?

we'll know if this is a good window when/after we played Liverfool EFL tie
(I reckon Villa has had the best xfer window)

No, as it is structured in such a way that it can either be short-term or long-term, depending how it works out. That's not what a bandaid is at all, that's always short-term. Whoever heard of a bandaid that, if it works out well, can be the long-term solution to a problem?

Straight loan = bandaid
Loan with buy option = not bandaid

How can this be so difficult to understand?

We lose 3 points straight away for leaving it so late , if you take into account all the lads we have signed for the academy as well i'd give it a solid 6-7 out of 10
Still lots to do in the summer but with Fabio back in July it could be a good one!

Good question, god knows - but loans to buy are not uncommon, so there must be some way of mitigating that risk.

Indeed - so all the more reason to say that a loan with option to buy is better than getting him on a permanent deal now, then finding out that isn't gonna change and we're stuck with an unhappy player for 5 years... ;)

Stop that. Far too much positivity that post.

No it's not... The adage of a "band-aid" is a short-term fix.
"It was a band-aid solution for a major, long-term problem" Our long term problem being injuries.

You can take the adage whoever you want I

I do understand that - it's not about understanding it's about if he stays.

I'm moving on from this we see this situation differently it's fine.
