I find the offshore-account angle from the prosecution a bit odd.
HR set up an offshore account to avoid paying tax, they allege.

Now, I'm no financial genius, but I always thought that was the whole point of offshore accounts.
What's the difference with this one?

The main thrust of the argument from HMRC so far is that money he was owed from the sale of Peter Crouch was paid by Mandaric into the offshore account. As these monies were contracted they are earnings and therefore should have been taxed appropriately.

Today they read out a transcript of a phone call in which a NOTW reporter phoned him about it. In it he maintains it wasn't a bung, and was known about by his accountant and HMRC. Any chance of him claiming it was a mistake and he wasn't aware the money was tax liable went out the window with that.

Unless his barrister has some Johnny Cochran shit up his sleeve I fear we'll be looking for a caretaker in a couple of weeks.

Agree... whether it's self-inflicted, or 'outside influences' make SURE Harry is found guilty (with whatever consequences that ensues) I don't for one minute think this WON'T somehow derail our fucking immense season so far... summit will happen and we'll end up mid-table and the laughing stock of the Premier League...

Mendes goal at OT....
Lasagne gate...
2010/11 CL was a one off...
Normal service will now be resumed...

SOMEONE doesn't want us to succeed for any length of time... a one-season wonder in the CL is as good as we can hope for in this corrupt, modern day version of football fiction! We don't dictate our own outcome... OTHERS DO!

If he is guilty so what really- ...clearly cannot be England Boss but don't really see why he cannnot remain Tottenham capo di capi -

If he gets time in Sing Sing then that is just a joke really- I am sure it will be a fine and a ban on opening bank account's in pet's names.

Does Levy want the ballache of taking a moral high ground- " not done on our watch son" "every sinner needs a second chance" - that should do as an argument- Redknapp will fellate the press and Robert is your dad's brother....

Do you reckon all the footballers are playing their correct share of tax???? wasn't there some story about Mister Barry at Citeh few months back

Yes Redknapp is a naughty naughty boy- but he is hardly the sharpest tool on the shed - this looks like tax evasion on the cheap .... looks like he asked Dave the Accountant's mate in Ilford to set up a scheme which he did via the internet and it came back and bit him on the bollock- maybe if he had used Jeremy in Mayfair it may never have been discovered....

but hey that is our Harry ....man of the people giving Dave's mate the chance ... if that is a crime ( sic) ... fine him...

HR is saying that he asked if Mandaric paid the tax "because he didn't want it coming back to bite him" and was assured, on multiple occassions, that it was paid. He has also expressed incredulity that he would attempt to defraud the tax man over a relatively small amount of money.

1. That last bit I buy. Doesn't make much sense really.

2. However, if that's the case and the money came from the chairman and everything is on the up - why the need for an offshore account under a pseudonym? Why not just payroll that shit?

I'm guessing this is a case of embarking down a road that you later realize was a bad idea and not having any sort of exit strategy -- then hoping no one will notice and it will just sort of go away. Oops.

He needs to go with the Chewbacca defense. Anything else won't cut it.

"This does not make sense.........."

Oi... careful where you sling that mud! don't be dragging Ilford's name into this!!!!

Our gaffer is facing a stretch for tax evasion, and our covert agents are presumably facing something similar for spying on the spammers and the OLC.

I reckon Wenger is behind it all... and will INSIST to the powers that be who STILL suck his rancid cock that Spurs are relegated 2 divisions, so that they can have their CL place back...

from hearing today's evidence the defence may have a point in that, if Harry was on PAYE and these payments were a bonus the tax should be taken at source, and text from interviews suggest that Mandaric, his employer, had said that he'll sort things out.

So my view Mandaric will be sharing a cell with the genial Harry Grout, while Harry gets a substantial fine and is warned to keep his accounts in order in the future.

Or not

Does that mean when Harry goes to prison Mourinho will be in charge next year? 'I don't know if I'll be at Real Madrid next season.'

surely Levy must have had this all ut with Arry? he aint gonna wait until the last minute to find a replacement id he goes down. I would have expected him to have put him on gardening leave or something like that.
They keep talking bungs but this is his ex chairman not some dodgy agent. This is more like a sweatener from the boss for doing a nice bit of business.

Fuck HMRC they get enough money anyway!!!

Yep. The "this account is dodgy" thing is, it seems, spin from the prosecution - and pretty well done, too. If Mandaric had sent Arry the money as a gift or a loan, it would be governed by Monaco taxation in some form or another (little or none, I imagine). It would have nothing to do with the HMRC anyway.
But since it is clearly money that is the proceeds from HR doing his job in Britain, it has to be declared for UK income tax.
