Teams below us need to outscore us by 1 point a game between now and the end of the season. Not happening. Especially if we can beat Ipswich. 30 is a disgrace but should be comfortable.

I will put my hands up here - I thought we would have to have a relegation battle BUT I was unable to foresee Manchester United's complete dire crumble, Wolves doing their thing & Ipswich nose diving. So I was wrong.

This is pretty much closed. Let concentrate on winning the EL.

I now agree it just took me time :)

A few matches ago we couldn’t see where the next points were coming from. Now we’ve put a run together there’s now way any of the teams below us can catch us. This can be put to bed now IMO.

Yeh and thank fuck for that. Imagine us in the Championship, we’d somehow fuck up the promotion back to the prem and get stuck.

This thread was created on the 29th December 2024, at that point we were at the half way stage, 19 matches and had 24 points.

Fast forward 13 matches Ipswich have 21 points, 3 points away from the tally we notched up last year.

Relegation was never a possibility and this thread will go down as probably the worst thread ever created on this site, everyone who contributed to it ought to hang their head in shame quite frankly.

Would ya be well lad. I created the thread! Yes me ! The almighty I!!! There are no journalists on here. Just lads having the craic and giving their opinions.
It was a relevant question based in the general consensus of people who have watched the game for more than a week…..
And …..and …… and technically we are still not safe.

In the Premier League, the average number of points needed to avoid relegation has historically been around 35-40 points. While this is a general guideline, it's not a guaranteed threshold, as factors like the competitiveness of the lower-half teams can influence the actual points needed for survival.

Elaboration:
  • Historical Trend:
Since the Premier League moved to a 38-game season in 1995-96, the average points needed to stay up has been around 35.6.

  • Mythical 40-Point Mark:
For a long time, 40 points was considered the magical number for avoiding relegation, but this has become less and less accurate in recent years, according to the Premier League and the Premier League.

  • Lower Thresholds in Recent Years:
The trend suggests that fewer points are now required for survival, with some teams staying up with 30 or even fewer points in recent seasons.

  • Not a Guarantee:
Even teams exceeding 40 points have been relegated in the past, and some teams have stayed up with significantly fewer points, according to the Premier League and BBC.

  • Factors Affecting the Threshold:
The points needed for survival fluctuate based on the overall point distribution in the league, the performance of the teams fighting for relegation, and the specific teams involved, according to a Reddit post.
