I mean ultimately it all comes down to the fucking lies we were told about the stadium and sustainability/long term competitiveness.
We had the best young team in the league with numerous generational talents, that was legitimately competing to win the league and champions league, all they needed was one our two more impact players and a bit of depth. Over three seasons instead they got: N’koudou, Foyth, Wanyama, Sissoko, Janssen, Davinson, Llorente, Aurier, and Moura. That was with yearly UCL money! But we were told repeatedly we couldn’t invest in the side because it wasn’t sustainable until the stadium opened.
And now there’s zero evidence that the stadium has made us more financially competitive, we’re still in the same spot in the hierarchy, maybe even further down. Still painfully behind on wage structure. The stadium, while very nice, was more for Levy’s ego than leveling the field financially. The only thing that matters is ownership that is willing to spend and ENIC will never do that.
Never again should we fooled by the business of sport bollocks, the only business of sport that actually matters is what occurs on the pitch.
