I actually think Poch had ground down a lot of the team with that comment.
Had some of the best players we've had in the PL era who battled to a CL final, 3 top 3 PL finishes, and a League Cup final, all in their prime (arguably), and he basically slapped them in the face with that.
My dad always described the new stadium and players at the club a year or so after it opened, on our first visit there like building a mansion and then decking it out with IKEA furniture.

Issue with him is that he never used them, and regularly insisted he wanted a small squad. Bought in the tree (llorente) and he performed in almost every opportunity he had, but Poch would still slog Kane to the point of severe injury because he refused to rotate or switch it up.
He may have changed now and (hopefully) evolved, but I think people forget how frustrating it was when he would carry on until the 80th min with no subs and no plan b for a game. I think Davies/Rose and Walker/Trippier were the only two players that were rotated and shared a lot of game time, but even at that I remember Trippier saying, when he joined Atletico, that he was basically injured for an entire season and never rested.
Best case scenario, for a Poch return, is that we have no europe for a season. I'd fear that if we did have it, it would end up being another season of doing badly in the league
If you look at the bench for most of the time under Poch , you’ll see why he hardly used them
Instead of backing him we decided to sack him and hope Jose could squeeze some more magic from the squad , in an alternative universe Poch wins it all!
Watching Sunderland v Bournemouth here and shows how far behind even these teams we are. The movement, urgency, desire, speed at which they play and honestly even the quality gap between them and the shite we have been served up for last few seasons is huge.
