Need this thread at the moment. Finding it really hard to remember why I should give a shit about Spurs. I guess the dream is we somehow recover our sense of being and belonging at NWHL. I’ve never felt so disconnected. Half time vs Frankfurt I just walked out of my seat and kept going back to the station. Not for the first time this season. So sad to see a corporate sports franchise taking the piss out of the fans, when it used to be our place to take the piss as fans and as the true representatives of the club.

I did the Heritage walk last week and before Thursday's game, I took a walk to Bill Nick's house and All Hallows church. Like you, I need reminders on why I love Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and not the tourist attraction that it has become.

It saddens me that I don't really care anymore. I still want Spurs to win every game but when we inevitably fuck things up I really struggle to be bothered.

Torpor and or ennui spring to mind.

I was at the front of that stand and remember it was a real squash, and it did get a bit scary. But our supporters didn't rush the gates - I'm saying no more but people will come to their own conclusions.
I always came to that conclusion, my uncle took me to that game while my mum was at home having a complete meltdown. We having to move forward started getting dicey but it calmed after, we heard the gates were shut and entrance was being regulated. What the Sun reported and the Police said was sinister but…

Was in the 'hump' at the very left of the end as you looked on to the pitch. Was scary even back there - way overcrowded LL terrace, almost as bad as getting out of the Clock End on Easter Monday 1982 - genuinely panicked thinking I can't breathe. I always liked Hillsborough for its grandeur and history but shit administration and shit South Yorkshire plod do not make a safe environment.

theres 3 key differences I can think of (btw wasnt there)

first up there were no pens in those days, so even if a load of Spurs had rushed in at the last minute and headed down the central tunnel then there wouldnt have been the crush as theres nothing stopping everyone moving across.

The copper who had been on duty for several cup ties at Hillsborough knew full well what could happen and was ready to open the gate. Hed either retired or been fired by the time of LFC. Not in time obv cos some poor guys got broken bones in the crush.

They were even ready to let any overspill go into the bit at the side theyd deliberately left empty.Spurs fans even asked before the game can we go in that bit, the answer was it'll be opened later when itll be needed. So they knew that problems would happen and had contingency

Leeds fans were very lucky in 87 when they played Cov. Yet again the FA in their infinite stupidity had given the smaller Leppings Lane to the club with far larger support. And the cages were there by that stage. Leeds fans were convinced they'd die that day. Remember reading an account of some of them, army guys too. They could hardly breathe.

but the worst bit was the pens. If you have a really big terrace, then problems like criushing dont happen. The White Horse final the first at Wembley they reckoned that 200,000 turned up. That's twice the capacity and well over twice for the terrace bits. No accutns of any fatalities or even injuries.

I have still got strong memories of that day. All week weather had been unseasonably cold so on the day me, my brother and dad wore our sheepskin coats and weather turned warm. I remember being in early and moaning about the fact that Wolves had the far bigger end even though everyone knew their support was a lot smaller. Just remember pressure starting to grow to a point that either our ribs were going to break or we were going to black out or both, then suddenly like air releasing from a balloon the pressure eased but for the whole of the game I never stood on the terraces just on everyone’s feet so it was no surprise to us what occurred in the LFC game sadly.

Tarantini in the back row, who made his debut for Brum against us in '78.
And Kempes, who we saw play for us at Enfield in '84.

So much this. I know you cant say much about this these days but i watched us from the Kop in 1985 and witnessed first hand the rushing of the gates. Happened most home games apparently.
