Management Roberto De Zerbi

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Or put Sarr out there? He can hold up the ball and isnt bad taking shots and getting into the box. Let's face it, he cant be any more ineffective. He was better under Tudor. Maybe move Richy left, Tel right and him through the middle. They need to do something because the same approach re Everton will probably see us getting relegated.
I am convinced that part of the loan agreement is if he is fit he starts. I can't see any other reason why 3 managers would all see him as the answer.

I thought he was a bit of a dick when he was at Brighton but it turns out that I really like him. I hope he stays.
Always starts like this. Mourinho was very charismatic and likeable at the start, so was Conte. Just give them all a bit of time and some adversity and the true colours come out. I suspect RDZ will be the same.

But for now at least, I agree, he's been what we needed and has been easy to get behind.

Generally you need to be an absolute bell end to be a top manager - huge ego, uncompromising, and pathologically obsessed with winning.

It's when they start losing matches and they start to feel the pressure, that's when you aee the other side of them.

I liked both of them as well to be honest.
The only managers I never took to were George Graham for obvious reasons, Ramos because of the shameful treatment of Martin Jol (which I guess wasn't his fault really) and Andre Villas-Boas, who always came across as a bit of a wanker.

Excellent answers in that presser IMO. Time will tell, but De Zerbi might be the best gaffer we've had in a long time.
To me, even though it's been a short tenure so far he's the easiest manager to get behind since Poch.

One difference though is that I feel De Zerbi has that edge that'll make it less likely the club hierarchy will walk all over him. I was a little gutted initially that we were not going to see Poch return in the summer, but the more I see, the more it feels like we've gone with the best option we could.

I'm in the same boat with you. Initially was looking forward to Poch in the summer, but RDZ has completely won me over.

Pretty much every manager for every club acts this way after a couple of years.

I think he's the best fit for us as a club since Poch. He doesn't see himself as bigger than the club like Jose or Conte, and doesn't play shit football like Nuno or Frank. Ange was the closest, but his system flattered to deceive at the top level - felt very boom or bust.

I do think sparks will fly sooner or later, and if the board fuck him over he won't be here long term, but I think he's as close to the full package as we've found. We need to back him as he's the best hope we've got of being a competent club again in the short/medium term. The guys above him don't have a fucking clue.

It's not as simple as that.

Richy is more miss than hit on the left. It's extremely risky putting a player who is quite frankly stinking the place out, and is a lightweight lazy prick, as our main striker for such a must win game (Muani). Against a physical Everton side, Muani could very easily and most likely will be, completely swallowed up and rendered anonymous, and as a result the whole team could struggle.

At least Richy puts himself about a bit, as shit as he is. Muani is just a nothing player.

I'd only move Richie out wide for Solanke, not for Muani. Muani would be a ridiculously huge gamble to put at 9 when he is playing so terribly.

Richy is equally maladroit with the ball anywhere on the pitch. I like him on the wing because he plays tenacious defense, and is less of a gaping hole where we need real hold-up play.

AVB had/has that mindset but was never really able to translate it onto the pitch. Probably because he never played himself at any professional level.

But he has transitioned brilliantly (so far) into the boardroom level since becoming president of Porto in 2024.

He'd probably do a much better job in that regard than our current three ring circus.

De Zerbi is a bit of a loose cannon so this is a typical case of "I believe it when I see it" but certainly positive if it's the case. Reminds me a bit of when Benitez was at Newcastle the season they got relegated. He had just been the manager for Real Madrid and I thought it was no chance he would stay with Newcastle in the Championship but obviously he did. Hopefully we will not get the chance to see whether he would follow us down or not.

he might want to stay if we go down but I suspect other clubs would be interested in him if the worst happens - and if that happens, ENIC get money. So yeah, err, great

Yeah and there's absolutely no chance Mike Ashley would've been paying Benitez anything close to what we're paying RDZ right now. Apparently he was on £4m down there, and even with the reported relegation pay-cut, De Zerbi will be on over double that, surely, given he's on £12m right now.

I was a bit iffy on whether RDZ would stick around if we went down when he arrived, but the more I've seen of the guy the more I think he's bought into the club and won't want to abandon us if the worst happens. He does seem like a bit of a romantic and clearly has bonded with the group.

I think the big thing that might make him walk is if the higher-ups start reneging on promises, selling players against his will and generally dicking him around. But given RDZ is clearly the club's best hope of getting out of this mess (either the Championship or the bottom end of the PL) they'd be mad to do that this summer.

They'd lose more money risking us getting stuck in the Championship when they can't attract a manager 1/2 as good as De Zerbi. If they truly care about the £££ their number 1 priority would be promotion at all costs.
