As for the selfish thing, there were numerous times during Defoes short appearance where he played the pass instead of shooting - just as he did the other night.

I think got the point you made but wasn't going to respond to it. If it was in response to Jermain Defoe then he has enough to deal with family heartbreak. If it was Soldado then huh? If it was Adebayor it's all a bit crass. I'm happy to call players cunts etc but with regards to acts of violence against anyone it's not something I associate with sport.
Back on point, I just find it strange that our own supporters are getting on players backs when they haven't been given a chance. We are not party to what goes on in training and why AVB prefers Soldado over Defoe as a starter. However it is down to the manager to choose the team. Would we have scored that goal if Defoe was on the pitch from the start against the Chavs? Soldado may not have had a lot of the ball but his positioning and play have suggested he could be more than a hit and hope striker and allowing others to get into good positions to score.

Without wishing to invoke Woolwich players, there are two who started quite slowly and did alright for them; Bergkamp and Henry, who I think, combined took 19 games or something like that to score their first goal. Soldado will be a great player for us, and whilst it would be brilliant for him to be banging them in left right and centre we'll (and he'll) have to remain patient.

He does do more than score goals.

I haven't read any comments, to be honest was just saying what I gathered from the crowd on Saturday
Its good to have frank open exchanges, obviously peoples expectations do vary with Soldado but he does have the experience, the class and the leadership in the forward lines to warrant his selection. We probably do need another forward and maybe this will happen during the next transfer window, then the pressure is on and competition for places will produce favorable results.

Could debate this to death but it's clear people are split on this and no one is changing their minds.
In my opinion, it's pretty simple. There is no point in signing a £26m striker if we don't have faith in him to do the job. He needs the team to consistently get him the ball inside the box and have confidence in him. We were terrible at that last season with most of our goals coming from screamers outside of the box. Dropping him doesn't solve any of that.

And so far we haven't really given him the service he requires. Once we do, he is such an instinctive striker, he'll be lethal...or he won't and we'll wonder what might have happened if we had signed Carlton Cole on a five year deal.:walker:
Fine line between discussion and argument. If he keeps his current goalscoring form and plays 50 matches this season he'd of scored 29 goals (4 in 7 so far) I think he's acclimatising well, he's a different sort of striker but you don't get into the Spain team without having a tremendous amount of talent, and I think that will seep through in the coming months, the reactions in the box and his quality of movement are world class, expect him to score 30+ comfortably this year, suppose it will be judged at the end of the season

I really hope soldado starts scoring soon, coz the only thing stopping us from being a title winning team imo is lack of goals. link up play is all good and well but we dnt hv many goal scoring midfielders like chelsea had last season wen torres wasnt scoring but providing assist nd some good link up play. unless we expect Siggy score more goals alaBale< something has to happen with the striking situation.
