Shit source but if it happened, the scouse tears would be epic and maybe just maybe, Xabi Alonso might find himself looking for a new challenge with Wirz headed out and his squad about to be gutted?

would be the great and obvious choice, but we'll probably put out a statement that we admire and respect Alonso but have no interest in appointing him as head coach at this time.

then go on to sign some cheap yes man again :levylol:

Nothing is certain in football but I've been watching Ipswich games on TV for three seasons now & I'm impressed with what he's done with very little. I fully understand that he's not getting the Spurs job but I stand by my opinion that he's a vey good manager.

Could make a similar case for Kompany. Played amazing stuff with limited resources in the Championship, tried to do the same in the PL with the expected outcome, but never the less played some decent football without the results. Bayern obviously saw that and decided he'd be worth a punt at a club with serious resources. I can't say it's fully worked out yet, but they're not doing too bad given the number of injuries.

Managers need to be judged by what they have done with the resources they have. We saw ETH spend 600 mil at manure with very little improvement. Managers have can look good running the show in lesser leagues but quite often are found out in the Premier. I think Kompany is a good manager but the transition from Championship to Premier was too much too soon.

The transition wasn’t too much. You could’ve put Pep or Klopp as manager of that Burnley team and they’d have still went down. It’s the gulf in class of players that’s the issue. Look at the 3 that have came up this season. All utterly hopeless at this level.

At the end of the day, a manager makes his reputation by turning water into wine. There are plenty of has-been managers who say "I could have done that if I'd had those players" but it's the managers who achieve under adverse circumstances that we remember.

I would also say that a title-chasing manager and a relegation-fighting manager are two very different jobs. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Pep or Klopp struggled to manage a team at the lower end of the table. I remember Lord Sugar's comment about Mourinho: "Let's see how special he is at Leyton Orient".

But, sadly, I don't think we're ever going to see a football manager equivalent of Rich Kids Go Skint.

I would take Kompany if Bayern let him go.

They won’t though because they are back to winning again with him an will get better from here.
