So, ahead of tomorrow's game.
(I'm obviously a Sporting supporter and the Spurs are the second team I cheer for, since 2006
(That benfica lisbon chap here spitting nonsense and lies is nothing but a small individual. Let me tell you I can't really get a grip on why to spread such hatred on a forum of some team their rivals are playing against. Sporting (and the fans) have absolutely nothing to pick on the Spurs. )
I haven't read the whole thread, but I haven't noticed any other Benfica weirdos in the forum so I assume you're referring to me? 😀
What are you even talking about? "such hatred" whaaaat? 🤪 Haha! 😆
These were my only two posts about this game, a little bit of humor = hatred and lies to you?
When it comes to European competitions, I see that most supporters of most clubs are not very patriotic and I think that's wrong. We should wish for our compatriots' success. So come on Eric Dier, fly high the Portuguese flag! 💪😏🇵🇹
Given how unimpressive sporting lisbon look this season (they lost a few good players that weren't properly replaced), how their defence is mostly yuck, other than Pedro Porro.... and so is their defensive/central midfield, plus the extra days rest you had, if Tottenham don't win this you should be relegated to the Conference League with immediate effect 🤷‍♂️ With Mourinho back as manager too! 🤢
That was just the normal Sporting experience back in the 90s, better to spend the game typing away on the old typewriter than to watch 11 pub players on the pitch. 😅
Was it a friendly game? August... could have been. I say this because there should have been a larger group of lunatics there, Juve Leo, their most important ultras group. South end of the stadium, I think.
The second post was a comment about a bizarre experience that Bill Madrid Bill Madrid had in your stadium, blame him! 😆 Or blame the guy with the typewriter.

You are waaaaay too defensive, unlike Sporting Lisbon's centre-backs. You gotta see me talking about Porto, that's where the real hatred is... grrrrrrr!
Don't worry, I have no major beef against your harmless association of chaps who play football, you're mostly irrelevant to me. I know Benfica is Sporting's biggest rival, mortal enemy, etc, etc (read your forum's thread about Benfica if you wanna see tangible psychotic hatred), but most Benfica supporters don't see you that way, please don't take it personally... Big hug 🤗

How is that relevant regarding starting Son in every single game?

Old habit was to start him always no matter what. Cause we had no competition for his position.
Now he start him no matter what while I would go as far to say that some of this season performances have been even worse than his cold spells in earlier season. But now we have competition for his spot.

So is new habit keeping competing players on bench intentionally to prove something?

P.S - not saying that Son would be bad player (he is just in bad form/momentum) nor that he would stay like this forever.
But I am saying that Tottenham Hotspur is bigger than Son and we need best possible performance levels from the squad today and tomorrow.
The problem with goalscorers is you never know when they're going to have a run of form, you just know they will at some point. It's a tricky one. Personally, I'd start Son and give him an initial 45 minutes. If he does well, good - if he doesn't, sub him off.

Your muffins are legendary.

Smuggle one into the Leicester game for me?

Please?

I've hung up my baking gloves, just don't have time any more. Baking was a lockdown project and since everything's opened up again, the mixing bowl and wooden spoons are just gathering dust :(

So, ahead of tomorrow's game.

Sporting's defense is not in its best shape. Some important players are out (as St Juste - the only CB who could really do something about Son's speed), Inácio hasn't been playing great (the on ball CB) and there's a clear flaw in the LB position (after Mendes left for PSG)
The team's best player wasn't Matheus Nunes - far from it. The best player is Pedro Gonçalves, the Left Winger (he zones out a lot during the matches, but is ultra clinic in front of goal)
The battle of the midfield will, obviously, dictate the flow of the match. Hojbjerg and Bentancur are a far more agressive pair than Sporting's duo (Morita and Ugarte - even though Ugarte is an absolute monster when it comes to jump on pressure).
The Spurs way of sitting behind and counter will do its regular damage, I'm sure of it. Sporting is trying to play more with the ball, with higher lines but that's also how Spurs like other teams to play.
A nice battle ahead, with two coaches who play a 3-4-3 formation and with similar ideas (although the players level on the Spurs' side is a step or two above, obviously)

We seem to have a Pair of Pugilistic Portuguesers here, disturbing the peace & harmony in our gentle, respectful and sensitive little forum. How rude of them to bring their rivalries here.

My equilibrium is unbalanced.

It didn't bother anyone when there wasn't a better alternative.
It would bother absolutely everyone if they were made to wear something that hindered them so badly.

Quite an interesting little read
yeah agreed about the materials SO MUCH BETTER ....for me it's about the logos ... I absolutely refuse to wear a companies logo emblazoned ax my chest ... It's taken me decades to come to terms with shirts and shorts with Nike tick and at a push Adidas strips on shoes...

The most interesting part is that a heavy cotton shirt can hold 7% of its weight in sweat, whereas an extremely lightweight synthetic can only hold 0.4% of its weight in water. There is little worse than running about in a drenched, heavy top.
This probably explains why football was mostly made up of people kicking lumps out of each other on muddy bogs,. Has to be better than running and getting sweaty.

Yeah 60s shirts were F..ING horrible to wear ... And damp , by the time you got home they smelt... The current materials arel Wonderful..remember doin tha Annapurna circuit in the early 90s and I was the only one that had Lowe alpine stuff that dried overnight ....it was a blessing. . however I refuse POINT blank to wear a companies logo emblazoned ax my chest... It's took me an age to come to terms with Nike ticks.. and draw the line at discreetish logos, like Nike or Lowe alpine on the chest...

Conte was just answering a journo question about depth/rotation. Plus, it spares Sonny any "he's been dropped" narratives.

Excuse me if I'm wrong and I did only see the highlights of your last game... But weren't your goals scored on the break as the home team pushed on
So, when Amorim started to manage Sporting the team was quite poor - quality wise. The match plan was more on the sitting behind and counter - and that's basically how the league was won.
Since then, he's starting to implement a more up-tempo, up-in-the pitch mentality. Not quite there yet but you'll see how the team likes to build from behind to make the opponent press a bit higher and then throw a long ball to the wingers or knit a quick pass combination in order to put the 3 forwards in 1v1 situations.
The team is still a developing project (as the manager is) and the best way to counter it's on-ball intentions would be precisely with a mid-high pressure, forcing the CBs (who don't have the best technical hability) to error on the build up (blocking their direct lines of passing).
If you check on the match against Frankfurt, they could have easily score, I'd say, 3 goals in the first 25-30 minutes, as the CBs fail on the build-up.

Rent free. I'm well aware on FórumSCP, as a member for almost 15 years.
(And you know nothing on the rivalry)

- End of off-topic.

Yeah .. don't think he's had a good game all season ... But in the first few games he was truly
Woeful.. not even getting anywhere near positions to score or break a back line...I do however see an improvement with every game.. he still fucs up constantly.. but he's threatening and getting into positions to be effective...so bottom line imo he just needs time ...
