It is more than that. It's a structural problem. We leave way too much space both out wide and vertically up the field in our build up. That makes it way too easy for our opponents to block whatever passing patterns that we have.
Not to mention that all that space make passing patterns that much harder to pull off. There's a reason that possession heavy teams favour tight formations. Easier to play short quick passes that way.

He’s taking far too long to make decisions, looks knackered. He’s still trying to bulldoze his way past people but he hasn’t got the energy to do it. Needs to just keep it simple and let the ball do the work.
