Not clear and obvious enough...as in, I assume, was not easy for the ref to see when it happened, so therefor not a clear and obvious mistake. Only reason I can imagine, and its a fucking dumb one.
That's not what clear and obvious means. It means they think the ref saw and the mistake was not clear or obviously wrong, there is a chance its right.

It was clearly a pen but the comm, Ekoku, going on and on about it was pathetic.

I eventually stood up and had shout at my television because of it. I’m sure he heard me clear as day :dembelefingers:
Well at least the TV did, and felt bad!

We flooded the midfield? With who? Son and Kulu ain't midfielders, they also stayed up front doing fuck all half the game. So who else? Porro and perisic? The reason we could not get out of our own half is because they owned the midfield. Tends to go that way in football. The reason we are shit is because we have only 2 midfielders on the pitch an one of them is peh...
Everyone pretty much. Everyone was narrow and deep. they outnumbered us out wide that’s where all attacks seemed to develop. The reason we couldn’t get out is because we had no options forward or out wide to stretch the game. Everyone was on top of each other, the player on the ball had nowhere to go. Son and Kulu weren’t up front doing fuck all. They were far to deep and narrow. You don’t have to be seen as a player in a certain position to play in that area

If the ref had not given Southampton or had given this one they wouldn't have overturned the ref on either case. You go with the ref unless it's clear and obvious it's wrong, that means there's a bias towards the on field refs decision
Yeah I know, but if the ref gives a pen because he thinks the attacking player got street fighter-kicked, when it turns out the kick only hit air, its clear and obvious he got it wrong, at least I think so. Just scrap the clear and obvious, if the call is wrong its wrong.

There was contact, only just, that was enough to justify his decision.

Just scrap VAR (yes even after today) it takes away more than it gives and always will.

A fair and balanced assessment of the game just given by Sherwood on Sky. It was quite articulate , couldn’t believe my ears. Had to rewind to make sure it was actually him. I can only assume he’s on some strong meds or something to cancel out the effects of being in close proximity to that brain dead twat Merson.

Didn't see the game, looking at the highlights it seems as if we get pretty lucky. Hojbjerg on Mitoma looks a clear penalty. Agree with the handball call on the Welbeck shot, if a ball hits the arm in build up to a goal the goal should not stand.

Seems the Hojbjerg debate is rearing it's head again, there's not much to be debated really. He's a solid player. Good Europa league level player. You won't win a league, or seriously challenge for one, if he's a regular starter for your team.
