It's been a shitty day as the whole ugly story has unravelled. I'm selfish insofar as I only want to see Spurs do well & I couldn't care less who the manager is if we are doing well. The repeating cycle is fucking boring though. Truly. As you rightly say, how many of our managers have been shafted in the transfer market under Levy? Deadline day deals that fall apart at the seams & make us look small time for the sake of not paying the money for the targeted player(s). Yes it's a business etc etc, but if You want to buy something to improve a business moving forward, you either pay out for what you really want or find an agreeable & cheaper alternative that your staff can actually work with... or you act like a tight fisted arsehole & hope that what you have will not break even though it's creaking like fuck. Or you act like an idiot, buy something that's not fit for purpose & tell your staff that what you have bought is just as good & to get on with it. Frazier fucking Campbell in, Berbatov out. Pushing for top 3, Louis Saha & Ryan Nelson brought in to take us to the promised land? Bale out, 7 gambles in. Rumoured to be getting Schneiderlin who the manager wanted, end up with Stambouli who barely got a game because the manager on the footbling side of things didn't fancy him. It's a good job he's not in charge of the NHS. Surgeons would be doing key hole surgery with A set of car keys ("you asked for tools to do keyhole work, I got you some keys-what's the problem?") . It pains me to say it, but this is a bloody mess right now although it shouldn't really come as a surprise. It's what Levy does. & the manager always seems to carry the can when surprise surprise, he can't hit unrealistic targets because he hasn't got/didn't get the players he needs. It will get to the point where even the Fat Sam's of the world wouldn't touch the Spurs hot seat with a barge pole because of Levy's reputation. & all the while our great club becomes an even bigger laughing stock.
I'm at the point where im resigned to mid table mediocrity & I just hope we play some good swashbuckling stuff along the way. We have no chance of top 4 & less chance of winning the Europa. One striker? A DM who is really a CB (admittedly playing very well, but will pick up suspensions, niggles & be roasted if he does put in a bad shift) with no back up? I hope to God I'm wrong but the omens aren't good. It's going to be a real test of Poch's abilities but his first job (& again it pains me to say it) is to give Ade a number & get the work shy bastard fired up. Because as someone else has said, we are likely to need him at some point when we've broken Kane

Too much truth in there mate, you must be a melt

From BBC website
"It is also understood that at no point in this saga did Peace give Tottenham a price that might secure the player, hence the prolonged chase and multiple bids."

An interesting Twist (If accurate). Why the hell did we put all our eggs in this basket if we had no idea what the valuation of the player was? We must have been guessing at what WBA may accept which is, in my opinion, reckless stupidity. It's bad enough to know the price & not meet it, but to go into the last day of the window needing a striker & edging up the bid a couple of times on the off chance that Peace might accept something is madness. We clearly spent a lot of wasted time on this farce that could have been better used actually pursuing someone we knew the likely cost of.

In fairness Newsnight had a piece about this fucked up window and said that the bottom club would get 100m (top championship club gets 6m!?!?) so staying up prob would get you 120m.

Newsnight also had LeSaux on tho so not sure how much of it to believe :)
Staying up is worth about 60 million, well it was last season as that figure was banded about everywhere for months to try to make the bottom 5 interesting.
Securing promotion into the premier league THEN staying up for example Bournemouth this season and the increased tv money in next season could make them a total of over 200mill, that was in the mail and a few other shite papers at the end of last season, but thats basically THREE seasons income not 120mill for a normal prem club staying up.

Yep, nothing really to add to that, except maybe that here we are talking about bring Adebayor back in the fold. A striker with no training or pre-season....who could've had all that had we not been arrogant and frozen him out. Can the man really be that bad if turd a like Sherweasel can work with him, that Redknapp can? The guy played for Real Madrid! Maybe he is just a peculiar character. Hell, Ledley King said as much to my face. This guy is nearly world class when he wants to play. As much as I loathe Sherweasal, surely it proves that if you have a little bit of short term man management skills you may be able to get something out of the man? If the club relegates Ade the same why it did BAE then, well, I'll be thinking seriously about canceling my membership for the next season or two. Oh, and what about the other stinker in the mix?! Milton Keynes. Milton fucking Keynes, because, you know, there's a another cheapo deal.

So, I said nothing to add, but I added....and nearly 1:30 in the morning and got to be up soon! I'm just seething I don't think I have been this angry at a window since the Raisak debacle.

EDIT: Just to clarify my post above, I won't cancel my membership because of Ade, but rather if he is still out cold while we pay him a king's ransom then it's "straw that broke the camel's back" for me where the club in concerned.

So, after the disappointments after deadline day let's look at how the squad looks until January:

Keepers:

Lloris, Vorm, McGee

Brilliant to keep Hugo, although this could be his very last season for us. Fantastic to have him for one more year though. McGee looks talented.

9/10

Defenders:

RB: Walker, Trippier

With Yedlin out on loan, it means that we will have healthy competition on the right. It was a problematic position last season. Kyle has finally a capable rival for the position

7/10

Alderweireld, Fazio, Vertonghen, Wimmer
This part of the squad also needed strengthening and with Wimmer and Alderweireld we look much better. I thought Fazio had some decent games last season and with Dier moving into midfield for some games I can see him starting with Wimmer in the Europa League for instance. On paper this looks good. I am hopeful that Jan and Toby can build a very good partnership like at Ajax. Good decisions to let Kaboul and Vlad go.

8/10

Rose, Davies
A position that didn't need changing after last season imho. Davies needs to up his game a bit for me, but Rose is twice the player I thought he would be. Think he might improve further too..

7/10

Midfielders:

Bentaleb, Dier, Mason, Alli, Vejlkovic, Winks

I am worried that this part of the team will be too inexperienced. One older statesman would have been good, but there is a lot of promise in this group, with especially Alli looking very good. I don't regret the decisions to sell Paulinho, Capoue, but I think it would have made sense to keep Stambouli. The likes of Winks and Vejlkovic might get chances in the Europa League.

6/10

Attacking midfielders:

Dembele, Eriksen, Lamela, Chadli, Clinton, Son, Townsend, Onomah, Carroll, Pritchard
We got a lot of different options here now, and the one thing we really lacked - pace - have been added. Dembele needs to be more direct and he is with Lamela and Townsend among the players who really needs to show their worth this season. Exciting to see whether Onomah, Pritchard or Carroll can make an impression this season already. Perhaps in the Europa League? Clinton and especially Son will be very exciting to see. The latter may become a favourite for the crowd.

8/10

Striker:

Kane

The discussion whether Son. Chadli and/or N'Jie Clinton are attackers or strikers will go on, but I still have the opinion that we don't have that central forward that can alone on top when Harry needs a rest or god forbid gets an injury. Harry is class though. And we won't promote Ade back into the squad will we?

7/10
Great summary mate.

I do remember that 60m figure from last year. As you say it was mentioned every week at the end of the season.
Isn't that increased this year tho cos of the tv deal? i.e. at end of this season.
Or did the new deal come into effect at end of last season?
It's late. I've confused myself now :)

We're all pissed that we never got a proper backup to Kane in but thats no fucking excuse to think that Ade is now the answer!!!
He's been a poison in our club and fucked if I want that cunt infecting any of our first team.
Let the prick rot wherever he wants.
He fails to turn up to clean the fucking toilets he gets fined.

Get back in your hole you prick!!!!!! It was a perfectly reasonable question that demands a reasonable answer. If you don't have anything constructive in relation to my post then don't bother. Now go back into your cave and eat some pancakes yank!!!!!
One, it was a perfectly reasonable response to a hilariously unreasonable question. Two, I fucking wish that I could eat pancakes more often, but celiac prevents me. Three, I am not a yank; learn your Americans.

OZHotspur OZHotspur ... wages stuff is iffy, so I left it out ... but here you go.

We made 1 million from Roma buying Iago Falque. So actually, we made money.

Why can't we buy out his contract?
Never heard of it being done by a club but is there a reason why it couldn't be done?
:carrollwtf:
Are you people trying to be thick, or is this some sort of sick game?

Mate, we are not a party to their contract. We have absolutely zero legal standing or capacity to buy out Berahino's contract. That is something that players and clubs generally do by mutual agreement, mostly benefiting the former if there are just a few months left and the player would like a last minute golden "fuck you" parachute to send him nicely on his way and the club is desperate to sell, a la Adebayor. Manchester United doesn't wade in and say "we're buying out the remaining 5 years on Harry Kane's 35k per week contract for ~9m pounds, because we'd rather not pay 100m pounds", and neither could we do the same for Berahino against West Brom's wishes.

It's ridiculous. It shouldn't require explanation.

I'm probably clutching at straws but are we able to buy out berahinos contract if we wanted to? Are we able to do this? A player for instance can buy out his own contract to become a free agent if he wanted to. We wouldn't be buying him in a transfer but instead paying off his contract to west brom. He is then effectively a free agent and we snap him up straight away. I just feel there's no turning back for peace and Berahino now.

Players can buy their own contracts out in specific circumstances. None of which apply to Saido. It basically applies to older players with a few years left on their contracts.
