But if we sign Batshuayi we can sing his name to the aga-do song...

Bat...shua...yi yi yi
is a striker from Belgium
Bat...shua...yi yi yi
give him a friendly spurs Welcome..

I'll get me coat.

He would be adequate back up to Kane, would offer us something different up top, and he could definitely link up with Kane should we decide to play 2 up top. He will already have a relationship with a number of our players from England as well, which has to be considered. We can expect him to hit the ground running and provide instant competition for places. I don't think we could have this expectation with Batshuayi.

We can look at minutes, opponents etc etc all day, but the long and short of it is he scored 20 goals last season and a number of assists (6 or 7 I recall?)

Rather worryingly, Batshuayi didn't even get 1 assist last season, playing from any one of the three positions behind the striker. I would suggest that screams of inexperience and/or extreme selfishness.

In today's market, it's no coincidence no one has approached Lacazette. There are a number of teams with the money to pry him away (City and United are just two that need a striker). I genuinely believe teams from the bigger leagues are wary of purchasing from places like Ligue 1 and Serie A. But lets be honest, that could be total bollocks!

To flip this, if you don't want Berahino, assuming Bobby and Ade move on, who would you like to see come in to compete with Kane?

There's the key for me. That is such an important factor. There was an outcry when the Bale signings failed that all we'd done is sign unproven lads from abroad. Now we're trying to do business at home and it's still not good enough.
Berahino didn't score 20 from open play, he scored 10 from open play in the League. The penalties aren't relevant.

There isn't any wariness over Ligue 1, if there was, we would have seen all those players coming to Newcastle, and now Aston Villa an West Ham as well.

The assists number isn't so important, as it depends on the guy you pass to actually scoring. Christian Eriksen had zero assists last year. Was that his fault?

As far as who I want, I don't think there really is anyone currently on the market who is perfect. Berahino has a pre-existing relationship, and is already in the Premier League, but is less than stellar. Batshuayi has gobs of potential but is untested outside of France. Werner is even more of a hopeful signing.

I think we may better off trying to recruit more for LW, and convert Chadli to a striker than shopping for an explicit striker. There is no one possibly available who we can afford and who would fit well for us.

If pigs fly, I'd take Aubameyang, but I really, really don't see that happening.

Penalties are relevant, you can miss them - but we'll agree to disagree on that one.

I'd suggest teams like Newcastle, Villa and West Ham buying players from there backs up my theory, that lesser clubs are going for some of the leagues best players, rather than our best clubs. Most require a stop gap to get to the bigger Prem teams.

Of course assists is important. You can't say penalties don't count and assists aren't important to make Batshuayi's stats stack up against Berahino's!! That is ludicrous!!!

Eriksen had 3 league assists last year in the league. 6 in all competitions I believe. Not sure where you got 0 from?

I know what you mean re Chadli but I don't think his work rate would allow him to be successful up front on his own in our system. He has the height and strength, and ability to find the back of the net, but he would need to work a lot harder, hold the ball up better and craft half chances into goals - something I'm not sure he's capable of.

And if Kane and Chadli are our only two striking options come 1st September, I'll be extremely concerned for our season.

We need 2 quality strikers with a third, maybe younger, backup. 60-odd games to play - they'll all get time on the pitch at some point. You could even argue 4 wouldn't be unreasonable (though I realise very unlikely).

Personally, I wouldn't mind Berahino AND Batshuayi - but certainly not the latter over the former.

Interesting, I had gone to whoscored to look up Eriksen's assist # and it listed it at zero. I had thought he'd had a couple, but went with the number. The reason I mentioned the assist number was less relevant was because it's dependent on someone else. The key pass and other #s about things like successful passes into the box are more indicative of the player's creative ability.

It is a good sign Berahino has those assists, but if we want a striker, we're more concerned about their scoring. To me, he's ok, but not great. He doesn't shoot with a high enough volume for me. I'd like a striker to be getting off around 4 shots a game at least. Any less than that and they'll need better than Messi conversion rates to score the amount we'll need from them.

Fuck sake, there are still people who think penalties don't count?

Penalties that are scored effect the game. If you're 1-0 up, you will attack and try and score another. If you're 2-0 you'll sit back and control the game. It effects how the game unravels, you can't simply dismiss it.

If Berahino had scored 0 penalties he might have scored more from open play, although less goals over all. And therefore he'd be a better player? What? It makes no sense. Berahino is a good player and anyone who says he isn't is talking shit.

Penalties count. Also....what the fuckerty fuck is going on when we are 10 days away from the start of the season yet have 4 keepers and 1 striker for the prestige US game ?

This is even more insane when we could be walking out @ OT in the same situation with 3 keepers in the match day squad. We are looking very very light in key areas
